Description
The fisherman thought he was completely alone when he went out fishing for blue halibut in the remote bay. His boat was the only thing floating in the water. No one was around, no tourists, locals, no coast guards, no one. It was perfect.

He was caught by surprise when the net he already lowered into the water had suddenly sank even more. Had he caught a whole school of them already? Tugging at the net, he was slightly disappointed to see it was only a single but decent sized halibut tangled into his net. One was better than nothing he supposed. When he went to retrieve it, a hand reached out towards his chest. All he could do was yelp as he was yanked into the water. Swirling and thrusting in sea water, he struggled to free himself from the net that had somehow tangled around himself, but no luck. Then he froze.

Suddenly before him were two eyes of the most beautiful sea creature he ever seen. A mermaid. But he thought they were only in story books and Disney movies. Then again this one looked like it could give Princess Ariel a run for her money. Her pink salmon like tail curled around him. Her luscious hair floated in long wavy locks. She was absolutely stunning. But the stern and serious look in the mermaids eyes were a sublime contrast to her stark beauty.

"You know you really shouldn't be fishing for halibut this time of the year, they're endangered you know." she spoke. The fish he'd caught earlier floated just above them. "Especially this one, he happens to be my friend. Are we clear on that?"

The fisherman had little to no breath to say anything, not that it would've mattered since he was underwater. But yet he could hear her talk just fine. Instantly pushing that impossible feat out of his mind, he simply nodded. He prayed that she understood he got the message.

The mermaid then smiled. "Good"

She untangled the net from around him and carried him to the surface to where his boat was. The fisherman was tossed back onto his boat. When he was was finished coughing up the gulps of sea water that leaked into his mouth he looked over at the creature who'd nearly taken him to a watery grave. Underneath the rippling waves was her face. She waved at him with a sweet smile as she sank deeper into the water from where she came. The radiating beauty of her eyes was once again undercut by the serious gaze they took on once more.

Not a moment too soon he revved up the engine to his boat and got the hell out of there. While he didn't see himself giving up fishing anytime soon, he was going far from any large bodies of water for very long time.

Well, here it is! My very first Mermay piece! I've seen so many great ones over the years and had been meaning to get around to doing one for the occasion. I have especially been inspired by JerricaWinters mermaid that she's done lately. While I love this, I could have done a better job in a few areas. But that's just the critic in me talking.
