Description
I just wanted to test things out, as this is my first time making a render with an actual scenery and not a screenshot as a background. So I took something random and edited textures in Keyshot to better fit my tastes, this tool is great for that. Also deleted some parts that looked out of place in a Mass Effect universe, like green plants. I still prefer pictures as background though. Probably gonna stick to that.

Kolyat's model was released by Just-Jasper and the second drell as well as Thane Krios which I changed with sculting and texture editing later.
The scenery used here was originaly ported by Deexie and edited in Keyshot.

The scenery looks nice.
I prefer 3D sceneries instead of images. Of course it's something a lot of extra work, but you don't have the limitations of point of view, angel etc.

Oh yes, I had fun doing it with the scenery - maybe so much because it's the first time - so I didn't pay attention, but I believe that took me so much more time than usual. Well, I always work very hard on the lights ( for my last render, I used 10 different "light generators" ) so using background pictures is best for that. Depends on what results you want. You're better with sceneries.

That's the disadvantage. Creating the scenes always cost a lot of time.
And something is nearly impossible to create a scenery due to missing objects.
The combination of 3D objects and background images are often a good compromise.
Lights are often a very time consuming topic.

You were already doing great renders that looked like pro's. Then you learned to add lights, and now you can also use real environement and not just image as a background. You're a real pro now! What can they do that you can't?
I definitly love the effect, you're good to make it look like it's taken from a movie. Your effects and point of view always do that magic!

Owww, dat comment. That's so nice. Thank you ! I'm glad I now know a way to use sceneries that fit my style, I always felt a little restricted because I couldn't. But using screenshots is way easier for the lights, as walls and objects block it with sceneries. Also, I wonder if I'll ever need to use this technique now, or if all the render ideas I will have won't require it. We'll see. It would probably help if I had specific scenes to illustrate... If you know what I mean. Also, still craving for your art. I need other people's art.

I now what you mean *wink wink* ( Also don't ignore my note, bitch )
And if I start using sceneries as well, I think I'll still have the same problem that I had while using images : not finding something that would suit the atmosphere of the render. But still, it fix the problem of some point of view you couldn't use with image as background.

The liberty of point of view really is the best thing about it. Finding something to fit the atmosphere is always the worst part, whatever kind of render you want to make. Anything that has to do with lights is a pain. I used 10 different « light generators » for this picture, can you believe it.
