I must say, these abstract animals are fun to do! Anyway, my abstract interpretation of the Great Horned Owl.Just to inform everyone this is not my usual style, in fact it's probably as far as you can get from my more realistic pieces. I think some people are a little confused.

I did not mean for my comment to come off as juvenile, really your work moved me. I do not oft comment on a piece of art unless it really has something to say.
An excuse I find for liking this piece, hmm, perhaps it stemmed from my religious beliefs-- a play on the fact that the owls act as the harbinger of death and at the same time an observer of life-- moving between both the spiritual and mortal realms. From what I have grown up with the owl is a highly revered totem.
Realism, color play-- sure those are nice-- But very few of the pieces I have seen on DA carry a traditional focus on line and shape. Top notch illustration yes, but unlike your piece here, lacking the feeling that is found within each stroke of the pen-- you tied yourself into this piece. You just cannot see that in a digital painting-- no texture to admire, no trace of a brush.
What I see here is intricate line work, well-crafted form and symmetry. Assuming you had used a reference, I love how the feathers and patterns have been abstracted-- the playful shapes emerging from the way the light had been cast over the figure. What you have done here is no simple feat, it almost reminds me of Mondrianβs approach to trees-- playing with negative and positive space.
I donβt know what else I could say-- itβs a fun bit of work, but not lacking in its technical magnificence.

Your comment has honestly outstanded me! It's not often that my pieces get such deep remarks and such spiritual or personal connections to that piece. And I totally agree with the perceptions on digital painting; the brush and line strokes in traditional painting really take you on a journey with the artist.
The interesting thing about the shadows and lighting used here, was that although I had a light source, I didn't follow it. I shaded in areas as though they should stick out, but because I placed the shadow on the opposite side of the norm, it looks like it caves in. I think that's what really made my abstract pieces; that none of the patterns and the way they are presented was intentional. It tends to trick the eye and I find that some viewer's see them differently to others, and these interpretations give people a vast majority of meanings

Myself being a tattoo artist allows me to see things and this is fantastic.
Do not know why you dont do this style more often and sell them as tattoo flash,
