She was in our mailbox.
Β Really! A neighbor had a pair of laying emus that I admired , so one day there was a gift of a fertile egg in the mailbox! I incubated it, and 90 days later... ED!

It was a little disturbing ... emu eggs are huge and dark green! Actually scared the person who got the mail that day. Thought it was a bomb.

OMG! I didn't know they were affectionate like that! But it makes sense. I've heard that chickens are becoming popular indoor pets, and that they follow their people around like cats or dogs.

Do you mean is she different from other emus? I don't know. She is the only adult one I have had, but she definitely has an interesting, unpredictable personality!

Until looking at the image now, I could not make it out from the thumbnail. Then again I did not know an emu could be like scratched behind the ears (so to speak) like the way it works when petting a cat. Cute this image is, it is quite well close up photo, at least not afraid of cameras.

Emu! I kind of love emus, though I've never seen a friendly one. They rather creepy looking, too, admittedly, so it's kind of funny to see it looking all affectionate and calm. xD

Aw... my mom's old dog used to do that. Lay her head on your leg and look as pitiful as possible so that you'd give her lovings. Never would've expected an emu to do it.

In zoo I've been working at, there was one emu that I could pet, too! He loved if I petted his neck, but hated when my hand was too close to his head, so I found trust displayed in this photo very intriguing. However, it's also true that "my" emu allowed me to be friends with him only during winter when zoo was closed for people, because during summer there were always lots of people of all kind, and not all behaved well, which sure must have been stressful to him... Maybe that's why most of zoo emus are so aggressive. And amount of space they have, of course.

Birds can be pretty friendly to people if they are raised from an egg by humans. I've known that about creatures like geese and chickens, but wouldn't have thought anyone even had an emu!

emu`s are wonderful animals i think, but in the zoo they behave rather aggressive (which is alright)
