Description
-31-an end
is but the start
of many possibilities
-30-
too long from sunlight
even the hardy
wither
-29-
sand moves
feet falter
trying to keep pace
-28-
severed bud
craves water
that it may yet bloom
-27-
brooding skies surround
but here
we lie in sunlight
-26-
curled in my lap
she purrs-
content
-25-
lips engulf
the plump strawberry:
ecstasy
-24-
dulcet music-
how soon to be satisfied,
this yearning?
-23-
sweet strawberry
bitter tea-
decadent blend
-22-
branches
kissed by dawn
find their vigor
-21-
solitary tree-
stripped limbs make
a mute entreaty
-20-
rousing
life defies
the abrupt chill
-19-
pear branch-
buds among thorns
-18-
beyond the fence
poppies
-17-
scraggly shrub
dons a transforming robe-
white and pink petals
-16-
a phantom's song
in duet-
unexpected tears
-15-
reveling
in the wonder of a child
discovering history
-14-
the pleasant paradox
of cold wind
and sunshine
-13-
on massive shoulders,
rugged clouds
lift the sky
-12-
sneeze to my left
sniffle to my right-
pollen looms
-11-
black tea;
dark morning-
one cures the other
-10-
foul thief!
I want my hour back!
-9-
plastic tubes
become a new world
to the children
-8-
whirling blades
reap grass and weed-
yellow eyes remain
-7-
returning,
friends make the world
whole again
-6-
white disk or azure tube...
which will quash the pain today?
-5-
fluffy cat peeking in,
her coat
still thinks it's winter
-4-
engulfed in blossoms,
neighbor's tree
shames my scruffy lawn
-3-
parched air’s electric gift-
passed on with a zap
and a yelp
-2-
light breeze, light jacket-
like my cats,
I shed my winter coat
-1-
cleansing winter rains-
why have they left
my car so filthy?

Thank you! Yes, just as it was getting warmer, even here the cold has returned!

21 and 22 have a certain power to them - and I can't help but be sympathetic to the contents of 12.

I'm sorry to hear about your sympathy for #12... I'm waiting with a certain amount of paranoid trepidation for the sneezes to hit me...
Thanks for the great comment!

day 5
i do not really understand the intention of the hyphen at the end of the first line. otherwise this is a good haiku of one of my favorite subject.
day 11
this gives a feeling of well-being. very good.
you are falling a little behind John.

yes, I am!
I've been consistently behind on this one... but I'm hoping to be better prepared for Mikes in May.
(oh, and I changed the "-" to a "," in #5... )

day 18
love the simplicity of this one. if you would like to emphasize a whole endless field of poppies, perhaps you could do something like 'oppies beyond poppies' or 'more poppies'
day 25
i would consider the last qualifying adjective 'content' too apparent. adjectives should be something the readers get after they read your haiku. telling it straight somehow rips away the fun and mystery.
day 31
so haikuwrimo may 2008 is coming soon~!

The 11th, 14th and 15th made me smile, the 11th as that's how I feel until I've had my tea, the 14th as that's the weather here today and the 15th as there's nothing on earth like a child discovering something new.

Have you ever tried white tea? I like it better than greenor black tea. It is light and refreshing and supposed to be good for you.

In 9, are you talking about the internets or those weird plastic tunnels for children in China's book stores?
It's cute that you have two cat haiku, for some reason, poets are more often cat-people than dog-people.

RetroZombie In reply to Iscariot-Priest [2008-03-12 22:03:44 +0000 UTC]
I don't know what's happening in China's book stores, but these are plastic tunnels that children crawl around in/out-of/through in places set up just for that purpose. (Oh, and they serve food as an afterthought )
I've noticed that! Expect more cat haiku, too--seeing as I have a lot of material to draw from!
