Temperament: Intelligent, curious, bold and bossy; Carmen is absolutely the lead mare (or at least wishes she was!) Tends to get a bit temperamental around new horses, so turnout with a select couple of horses she likes is ARS' go-to setup. Often sticks her nose where it doesn't belong and tests the limits of what is allowed. She doesn’t show much respect for anyone who has to handle or ride her, though she does warm up to you over time. It's her way or the highway! For her rider she requires someone who is patient, keen, and not a pushover.
Handling: Has a wonderful, strong gait with a high jump and loves to show off; she especially loves to leap and buck and will do so at any opportunity. She tends to be a bit more insensitive to subtle cues and takes a harder hand. Will always come over whenever you enter her pasture or stall to investigate what you’re doing, and is more than happy to stick her head (or leg, or butt) into your space. Also will always check your pockets for treats.
