Thanks a lot for your kind words... and the fave... and for watching.
The ship seems to strike a certain nerve. Very cool for a Traveller design that is short of 30 years old...
BTW: Your Daleks are awesome. Exterminate!

Great job!
One of my all time favourite ships!
From a gamer's perspective an ideal vessel for a crew of 4 - 6 people.
For me it has "Firefly" written all over it - at least for the type of adventure I have in mind.
I sent a group of SCs on a similar boat (the "Duchess Delphine") on two short adventures during the last two Conventions in Biberach an der Riss.
This picture captures the spirit of the ship marvellously!

Thanks a lot
It was probably the most challenging Traveller ship I modeled so far. It's still not 100% correct when compared to Rob and Tom's design but for me it's good enough. The texturing job needs actually more work
I used this class a lot during my active Traveller RPGaming days. Fond memories...

Impressive piece of hardware - Millenium Falcon but with a practical sense!
Then again it's Traveller - Excellent render sir!

Thank you
The design though is not mine. Arcas-Art and Drell-7 made the ship up in the late eighties, if I recall correctly. The drawing the model is based on is thisΒ fav.me/d557863 one as you might already know.

I know but still, nice to see it so rendered very well!
Well done

You crafty German...always with the surprises!
Β
Wow does this ever rock. And I have to disagree with Arcass about the bump map. I think looks sweet like this. Really has that kicked around the universe, made for work look.
Β
When can I have this model?

riftroamer In reply to AbaKon [2013-09-17 11:19:35 +0000 UTC]
Thank's William. It looks a bit scratched and dented in places, youst as I like it, but too shiny in those places too. I will play a bit with the settings and see what comes up.
As for the model... I can't tell yet. My rule of thumb is: Let me create a cool piece of artwork with it first and then I decide. The upcoming Traveller Calendar 2014 is a likely candidate for an image to appear featuring this ship (If my donation survives the selections process, that is).

WOW! COLOR!!! That's a nice surprise
Looks pretty good - neat scheme. You might want to dial back that bump map a bit, though?

Yes , I do color - though admittedly rarely
I'll try different bump-map intensities, maybe something better comes up. It seems I forgot to activate the specular map in that render. That might already do the trick

RobCaswell In reply to riftroamer [2013-09-17 14:55:05 +0000 UTC]
Hm. I think the spec map might just make it worse. But dialing way back on the bump and dialing up the spec could be a good fix.

Thanks for pointing out the bump mapping issue. It definitely helped to solve another problem I had with the scene this ship is going into.
Unfortunately my current wireless ISP went offline permanently yesterday and I'm only on my mobile. So updates will have to wait for a while until the new carrier hooks up the landline to my home.

I'll keep that in mind with the next render, Rob. As you know: Color is really something new to me

That might be the colors. The model depicted is a tried and true Traveller ship, though. Original drawings and design by Arcas-Art arcas-art.deviantart.com and Drell-7 drell-7.deviantart.com and dating back to the late 80ies, I believe.

Interesting, well I was not referring to copyrights or anything similar. It just reminded me of it, yet not only the colors but also the shape. Some little fighter ships from the game looked similar to this one.

Now that you mention it. These fighters were tiny in the game. Homeworld was very cool and inspiring. Both main games were.
The copyright part was meant to provide credit where credit is due. Us Traveller folks sometimes seem to accept Traveller related stuff as common knowledge since the game had been around for ages, but that could be just me.

jankoboys6 In reply to riftroamer [2013-09-17 16:25:50 +0000 UTC]
Yeah they were very tiny, yet for an unknown reason I payed a close attention to them ^_^Β
The story was very good, I even red the whole story in those booklets which were added to both games. And as you said, it was very inspiring!
Traveller...is this a board game?

A pen&paper roleplaying game from the mid to late seventies. It was just released in it's 5th edition. There have been tabletop elements in the game (miniatures battling on deckplan printouts and such), as well as a board game and two computer games (then under it's MegaTraveller label). It hit the market at the same time as the first Star Wars movie I think.
