Someone foundΒ a hypotheical Godzilla evolutionary chart made by a Japanese publication.

Highlights include a small, orange burrowing critter, a small arboreal creature, and a deep sea dweller which is a direct ancestor of the modern day Godzilla creature. Note the Biollante-shaped head.

The orange and green ones remind me of Baragon. Could he be a relative of Godzilla's species.

In a Godzilla story I’m writing I actually mention that they might be related and this image helps a lot.

Wouldn't be unusual if that were true

the abyssal one gave me an idea of what if the DNA that was used to create Biollante is actually belong to this species.

The last 2 Godzillasaurus was meant to be the last and the most perfect member of Gojira evolution line. The mutation caused the particular Godzillasaurus to display some sort of atavism, which is a prominent back spine. The one that resemble G 2000 was another and seemingly more ancient member, along with the semi aquatic one with Showa like face

If I got it right, I think that the large green species that basically looks like Godzilla (the "anti-nucleation goji" is how google translates its name) is supposed to be what the Showa Godzilla mutated from, as that Godzilla was described as "amphibious reptile mutated by radiation".

Apparently it's ancestor, the blue Godzilla look-alike (the "large uranium island goji"), adapted to feed upon radiation from an island high in uranium. After being driven away from their island home by invasive Rodans, they evolved the ability to breathe underwater, feeding upon deep deposits of radiative material in the abyss. Then they became that aforementioned large green species after emerging from the deep.

Adapting to an island environment with no radiation, that same large green species is also the ancestor of the two godzillasaur species, the brown one (simply called "godzillasaurus") and the blue one ("legend godzilla", possibly "legendary godzilla"). The brown one is obviously the one from vs. King Ghidorah, and exposing that one to radiation changed it into the gigantic Heisei Godzilla, shown here to be a throwback atavistic mutation. Not sure about the blue godzillasaur though. It could either be the species that Baby Godzilla fromΒ vs. Mechagodzilla II, the original form of the 1954 Godzilla, or possibly a pre-mutation version of the 2014 Godzilla, illustrated before the info about that Godzilla not being a mutant was released.

This is info gleaned from that site's articles with Google Translate activated, so a lot of it was unclear.

I think Godzilla 2014 belongs to other evolutionary line of his own, a sample of Convergent Evolution. Ans he is said to be originated from Permian era

Or maybe a further evolution of the Godzilla 2000/Thorn Goji species.

And I just read the whole chapters. I gotta say it was an interesting and immensely helpful read. And like how Godzillasaurus evolved during the Tertiary period, even had some encounter with humanity

Yes, it's a very fascinating read, from what I could make out of the translated text.

A story about a pre-mutation Godzilla would be cool to see, sometime.

It actually states Godzilla is a Theraspid

And isn't the small jungle one that resemble G 2000 belong to another, less complete branch of evolution? So, heisei and 2000 relation is like tiger and lion

Yeah, something like that. That one's called "Thorn Goji".

Of Godzilla 2014 does exist in this universe, he might be a very different creature that belong to another evolutionary line, and is infact more ancient than this Godzilla, since Godzilla 2014 is suppose to be a Permian lifeform

So, Godzilla is a Gorgonopsid/Nothosaur/Pliosaur/Dictodont/Carnosaur??

Something like that. Seems like a lot of effort to go through in order to say 'Godzilla is not a dinosaur'.

So, does this mean Biollante is displaying atavism?

yes! Atavism! I have been looking for the right word to describe it! Thanks

I think that was the artist's intent, yes. It's an interesting explanation for Biollante's bizarre head shape.

On the Japanese site these are from there's even a relative that resemblesΒ the Godzilla 2000 look , and the one with a horn on it's head that I think is supposed toΒ evoke Spacegodzilla's head crest .

The whole site is in Japanese and even with google translate I only have the vaguest idea what the text says and what these details mean. The part that confuses me the most is why there's two kinds of Godzillasaurs.

Maybe. But before that I'd like to find out more about the artist(s) behind the making of the chart. I'd very much like to give them due credit if I am draw any more of their creations.

Hmmm.....so one of Gojira's basal relatives is a pliosaur of some sort. I guess it's safe to say Gojira is a basal thecodont or related Archisaur.

Great, wacky chart. Some f the critters look like the "inside a glacier" scene from Ice Age.

Kaijukid23 In reply to HUBLERDON [2016-09-13 13:58:01 +0000 UTC]

Thats why the mutated modern Godzilla has some of those ancestors traits (being able to stay underwater as long as possible, dorsal fins, ability to survive solely on radiation while still able to consume meat, etc) Those traits came and gone during the evolution. I have to admit that the author of that article really did a good job and is no doubt an evolutionary/genetic expert

I get this Super Geon like feel from the green one.

And the mole like one I just want to hug and squeeze cause he just looks f'ing adorable!
