Description This scanned photo is from about 1985. A friend went to EPCOT when it first opened and gave me a poster of Spaceship Earth. I must have studied that thing for months when I saw the repeating pattern and saw how it related to a Dodecahedron which at the time was really the only polyhedron I was familiar with. I drew out the basics of a pentagon and laid out equal spacing for the 8 frequency, then I made an assembly jig and there you have it!

In a funny twist of fate, I ended up working in the WDI Imagineering modelshop for nearly 2 years. Go figure!

It's about 11" and all made of very fine basswood strips used in model railroad structures. Unfortunately a few years later, the model got kinda crushed in a move and I never went back & fixed it so all I have is the one photo.

Well...I very curious of that patern You figured here out, maby You could share with me and especially with my son...he is fascinated by shapes!
I send You this link already, but here You talk about dodecahedron so I will do it here again...here it is more adequate...

the Wikipedia article about Spaceship Earth refers to the Pentakis Dodecahedron as its base. I used color markers on the lines all over the poster of the actual geodesic to see how the patterns repeated.

Oh MAN. Bummer that it got crunched. Totally epic model. I'm going to have to start a multipole design (multipole is what we temari-makers call exploded dodecahedral designs) now. You are a total inspiration!

Love the "I'm dark and mysterious" look you're rocking.
