Description
This one was a lifer for me. This is a disk-winged bat, family Thyropteridae, and yes, it has suction cups on its wrists and ankles. They roost in unfurling banana leaves (very slick) and since the leaves unfurl in a near-vertical position, the suction cups are necessary. So cool.Related content

Thank you. I had heard about these bats in my Mammalogy class at school, but seeing them in the wild was absolutely awesome. Suction cups on a mammal -- how bizarre and amazing.

Thanks. I had heard about these guys before in class at my university, but I never would have guessed we'd see them out in the wild. It was totally awesome.

Thanks. I'll probably never get to see one of these guys again, so I'm happy to have gotten a shot clear enough to remember it by.

It never even occurred to me that we would have a chance to see them, so I think we were really lucky.

I know. Totally bizarre that a bat would have built-in suction cups.
