Description
This is the cover and back cover to my daughter's birthday party invitation. We are only inviting immediate and extended family so I feel bad that I'm only sending a few of these out in the mail.I wanted to recapture the grungier Sesame Street from my childhood days. The Sesame Street books back in the 70's were illustrated with such a unique group of artists. I still have all of mine!
Now Elmo and Zoe rule all with their neon poppy colors and mass produced clip art illustrations...DAMN YOU ELMO...DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!
I miss all the un-PC characters like Roosevelt Franklin, The Two-headed Monster, Frazzle, Herry Monster, Bruno the Construction Worker, Guy Smiley, Sherlock Hemlock, The sleazy street vendor guy, and that crazed piano player that used to smash his head on the keyboard.

im a child of the late 80 and early 90 i caught the show when it was on its way into what it is today but it was still good. I still have a set of sesame street encyclopedias form the early 80s. i go back to them now and again wheni feel nostalgic. u definteyl captured the old school sesamee street. teh way it should be. i miss that era. I wonder what jim henson would think of the show now?

I'm sure he'd love it, but I miss the grungier Muppets of old!
I've been watching the show more with my daughter and it is not as bad as i thought, the Elmo stuff (however cute) can be too much at times. I love the kids though, they are cute!

This is fantastically done! Cookie Monster especially. Love his hand gesture there.
I miss the old Sesame Street. It felt... real. Even with the monsters and big birds and snufflufigus (did I spell that right?) roaming the street, it still had an honesty to it that today's kid shows seem to have lost. They say that today, characters like Oscar the Grouch and Cookie Monster would never make it onto a kid's show. How sad.
Oh, and this is especially poignant for me right now, because my grandma collects Cookie Monster toys and collectibles... and we just found out she has cancer and might not be with us much longer. She would love this.
(I think Elmo has ADHD, for the record...)

I'm really sorry to hear about your Grandma. I unfortunately lost my Grandma a little over a year ago. Hang in there!!!
Thanks for you kind comments! I appreciate them!
I was watching Sesame Street today and it seemed a little better than I thought. they had some cool skits with Cookie and Grover, and even a claymation Bert and Ernie short. that was awesome!!!!
Elmos is ncie for the little kids, but I jsut cannot relate to him! HA!!

The cool thing is that you can find those books for dirt cheap at thrift stores. They are in great condition too! I'm finding books I never knew were made!

I think she already hit her terrible twos. I'm trying to read up more on some things. she is the sweetest kid in the world as long as you do not dress her, change her diaper, or put her in a car seat. HA HA!

Oooh... But I think that's with most kids her age, trying to do stuff for themselves. Give her big girl diapers!

RobbVision In reply to alexpal [2008-11-06 03:23:18 +0000 UTC]
Hey Alex!!
A procrastinator is someone who tends to wait till the last minute to do something....then they get stressed out because they should have started working earlier. I am a classic procrastinator!
HA HA!!!
Thanks for your always kind words!!!

Frazzle!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Excuse me Frazzle - but you are not fuzzy and blue - you are fuzzy and ORANGE!" ~Grover.
I love that guy
I miss the old Sesame Street too...the one with Big Bird calling Mister Hooper "Mister Looper".
I always wanted to be Maria LOL
I still have my albums. I have maybe a half dozen records still in their protective cases. It's amazing they are still in tact - they were well loved
Thank you for the inadvertant walk down memory lane - your artwork is phenomenal. Your daughter is a lucky duck

wow....very kind of you!!! that is the ultimate compliment. i'm glad that brought back good memories.
I had some great albums, but I'm not sure where they are....I do have a Sesame Street metal lunchbox though!
It is crazy that a lot of the original cast is still on the show. I did not know that David died back in 1989 from stomach cancer. They never dealt with it because they thought it was too close to Mr. Hooper dying in 1982.
