Description
This is the cover and back cover to my daughter's birthday party invitation. We are only inviting immediate and extended family so I feel bad that I'm only sending a few of these out in the mail.I wanted to recapture the grungier Sesame Street from my childhood days. The Sesame Street books back in the 70's were illustrated with such a unique group of artists. I still have all of mine!
Now Elmo and Zoe rule all with their neon poppy colors and mass produced clip art illustrations...DAMN YOU ELMO...DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!
I miss all the un-PC characters like Roosevelt Franklin, The Two-headed Monster, Frazzle, Herry Monster, Bruno the Construction Worker, Guy Smiley, Sherlock Hemlock, The sleazy street vendor guy, and that crazed piano player that used to smash his head on the keyboard.

my kids are both toddlers and all we watch is Sesame Street and its sooooooooo depressing

As usual, I love it! You captued the colors perfectly. Those were the days... when Sesame Street was more realistic and the set had a slight overtone of danger. Nowadays, Cookie Monster occasionaly steals iPods for cookie money, but everything else is so cleaned-up and pristine.

I heard that on the re-released DVDs of the original Sesame Street episodes, there's actually a warning saying that the show is no longer appropriate for little kids. That's how much society has changed since then.
But, anyway, adorable illustration! I really love the Cookie Monster's face! his expression is so cute. It makes me want to hug him.

I have that dvd! I love it!
I think the old show was grittier and less pre-school sensitive. Still a very innocent show.

The piano guys name was "Don Music". I still laugh like an idiot at his skits. My middle daughter was somewhat traumatized by me letting her watch them tho. She made me draw him about a thousand times in the weeks that followed so she could come to terms with it...
I love this piece man! Brings back so many memories

you have awesome work man, LOVE your style.
Your story reminds me of when I was a kid. I think I used to try to get my folks to draw stuff I was creeped out by, none of my parents are artists, so i started drawing it myself...therapy.

thanks buddy!!! you are always so kind, and compliments from you are like gold in my book.
I think the 2-headed monster was not so much un-pc...but i think they thought he...or "they" was making fun of people with speech impediments. Not sure if that is 100 percent true or not...
I loved that muppet though...
what is new with you?
