A few of you may recall me posting the lineart for this tribute to the short-lived “Alien Nation” series over a year ago, and that I said then that I intended to color it and give it a cool spacey background. Well, it’s taken me longer than I planned, but I finally got around to finishing it.The nebula behind the figures is just watercolors which I inverted in photoshop and added some stars to it. It’s probably not at all noticable, but I’ve actually used modified versions of the same background in a couple different pieces; I’m gonna have to find something else to use the next time I want an abstract sort of feel before it becomes obvious.

just found the entire season on YouTube and binged watched it. I wouldn't seeing them do a remake, maybe with a few more seasons and Tectonese culture thrown in.

I love this drawing, & I loved the series. There is talk of a re - make / re - imagining, maybe in the same spirit as the " new " versions " of " Battlestar Galactica " & " V ". If there is, I hope they do it proper justice. Giving Fox a good story idea is like abandoning a child to be raised by wolves.

Thanks for the comment. I read about them remaking or rebooting the series quite some time ago, but I haven't heard anything about that in so long, I can't help thinking the idea may have been abandoned.

If they do, I hope they do it justice. The original series was great, so naturally Fox axed it probably in favor of a sitcom about some dysfunctional family ( Fox used to churn out a crazy / dysfunctional - family sitcom every other week in the 80's & 90's, it seemed like. ).
I have a story idea for the Newcomers / Tenctonese set 150 - something years in the future after the events of the series & tv movies, but I'd have to do some research into the series. I see Emily & Buck Francisco as still being alive ( You know, the whole " non - humans have incredibly long lifespans " thing, a la Mr. Spock & his dad. ), & Tenctonese being better accepted into Earth society in the future. It needs to be fleshed out more.

That would be an interesting way to go with it. Well, I suppose one could say that the one nice thing about the show not lasting that long is that if you want to do research, the mythology isn't as complex as Star Wars or Star Trek, etc., so you don't have as much stuff to sift through.

Well, it seemed to have more backstory in terms of cultural things like the Overseers & the caste system the Tenctonese had on board the ship, as well as characters like the old guy ( Moodri ) who was immune to the acidity of salt water. I might have to assume some things ( Like Tenctonese longevity ) for the sake of the story.
It'd be REALLY nice if I could pick the brain of someone who actually wrote & produced some key episodes. I could make it an " epilogue " or maybe inspire a new series.

Aha ! Sounds like a good idea. Just enough info on the " culture ",backstory & whatnot of the Tencts / Newcomers to stay within continuity.

That was such a great show. When it came out on DVD I was shocked that all I remembered from it happened in one season.
Add it to the list of great shows axed by FOX.

At least they were luckier than most prematurely canceled shows, getting a series of TV movies.
