Description (2016 EDIT: I made a few changes... tweaked some colors and redrew Kira's face entirely)

It is accomplished.

A scant number of you may have seen the sketch of this take-off on Da Vinci's Last Supper back in December of 2012 when I uploaded it to my scraps.

I'd kinda hoped to have it completed by the following month, to commemorate Deep Space Nine's 20th anniversary, but I was just so damn daunted by how much work I knew would be involved that I left the drawings sitting on the end of my couch and the DVDs I intended to reference gathering dust on top of my TV for a year.  Just under a week ago, the show reached it's 21st anniversary.  If it were a person, it would now be old enough to drink.

I still clearly recall seeing the first promo for DS9.  All it said was "Coming in January" and the name of the show.  Being deep into my Trekkie phase, that was enough to cause me to bound across the room while uttering a triumphant "Yes!" in an embarrassing display of enthusiasm before I was stopped short a second later by the realization that I had little clue what "Deep Space Nine" was. A new movie?  Eventually, I came to regard the show as quite possibly the best of the Star Trek series.

Wait. Two Daxes existing in the same place, at the same time? What sorcery is this?

great work, will you ever do one of these for voyager?

rocketdave In reply to AlasterBoneman [2017-09-17 22:04:11 +0000 UTC]

Probably not.  I'm not sure there are even enough Voyager characters to fill all the seats in the Last Supper.  I guess maybe if I used Seska for Judas and perhaps Icheb and Naomi for the other vacant spots?  Besides, this just made more sense to do with the DS9 cast because of Sisko's status as a religious icon.

I didn't even realise this was a that on last super until you pointed it out. I suppose you don't have to make it a last super thing inless you really wanted to.

Oh, well, if you're asking if I plan on doing Voyager fanart, it's not outside the realm of possibility.  To be honest, though, it's not my favorite Star Trek series, even if the EMH is possibly my favorite regular cast member out of any of the shows.

This is so clever. I am in awe. It's an impressive piece of work but all the same I feel the urge to giggle at what sort of conversation they must be having...

Who is Judas in this Last Supper?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rocketdave In reply to dinozohar [2016-07-29 19:25:58 +0000 UTC]

Garak.  Well, when I posted the original sketch for this, someone pointed out that I'd put Bashir in Judas' spot, which I was aware of, but had somehow hoped nobody would read any deeper meaning into that.  Aside from Sisko, I didn't put that much consideration into who went where- I just drew what worked for me on an aesthetic level.  However, late in the process I decided that having Bashir there might be too confusing/distracting, so I switched things around.   Now Garak is where Judas was, which makes more sense anyway.

I'm excited about the new TV Series coming next year.  And I'm hoping Star Trek Beyond will be a better film than the last 2.  The first half of Into Darkness was great, the second half: not so much.

I may be in the minority, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Into Darkness.  Perhaps it helped that I had lower expectations because of the 2009 movie.  Anyway, I'm also looking forward to the new show, as well as Beyond.

I remember Deep space 9, it was pretty cool, probably the best written overall and definitely the one that did the most to explore the politics and cultures of all the star trek worlds, though I never liked the ferengi. Admittedly it did lack the optimistic humanism that informed the TOS and Next Generation, and I don't think there was any one character as memorable as Picard or Spock, but with its long story arcs, dense pacing and thoughtful writing I can understand why so many consider it the height of the franchise.

Also the last supper parody at a space bar concept was worth a laugh.

I agree that I think this was the pinnacle of Trek.  From Voyager on, I felt they were just pandering.

Wow I love all the detail that was put into this!! and I agree Deep Space 9 was definitely really cool! I'm finding that I really just love all the series equally I cant seem to pick a favorite, they are all awesome in their own way ^^

I also like that you included both Jadzia and Ezri, along with Morn he's so cool this is really really really really really really AWESOME! I could tell who everyone is easily, and all their personality's are displayed very well in their body language. Just a really well thought out piece with some beautiful execution.

Thanks very much the compliment.  Yeah, my appreciation for the show definitely deepened after I rewatched it on DVD, though I liked it a lot when it was in its original run, too.

I was considerably younger when it first came out, and I didn't realize how much I missed. Little nuances of the show make it considerably more enjoyable the second go around for me. And some of the subject matter they deal with , such as war and the value of human life, is something I understand now. As a 13 year old you miss a lot of that stuff. At any rate, I enjoyed this piece. And you are most welcome.

Just finished up watching all of DS 9 about two weeks ago!  One of the best of the Star Trek series in my opinion.

Thanks very much for commenting. I enjoyed coming up with stuff to include in the scene that fans would hopefully recognize and enjoy. Part of me would have liked to have added more than I did, but I didn't want the inside references to distract from the overall composition.
