Description I don't think I did this right. I believe this was just intended to to be an organized sampling of the major influences on one's art now, but instead, this just turned into an insane collage of any little thing I could remember shaping my artistic sensibilities, for better or ill, going as far back as when I was first able to pick up a pencil.

A few of these things perhaps belong in a separate "bad influence map." Like, I love Star Trek, but I think I wasted too much of my teenage years designing bumpy-headed aliens and futuristic fashion.

The bulk of this crap is from my childhood, 'cause I think that's where my style, like everything else, was influenced the most. There are not any really up to date influences here because I honestly could not tell you what inspires me in the present. So I don't think doing this really helped me to feel less "lost."

Muppets (The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, whatever; they were the first thing I ever learned to draw)
Garfield and Friends (better than the comic strip)
Alf (I loved the sitcom as well, but really loved the animated series)
Muppet Babies
Galaxy High
Inspector Gadget (unknowingly, I ripped-off Brain when I created my first OC)
The Smurfs
Count Duckula
Danger Mouse
Winnie the Pooh (both the books and the Disney cartoon)
Wind in the Willows (both the book and the Disney cartoon)
Roger Rabbit
Ren and Stimpy
Al Capp
Star Trek
Disney (including the movies, the old cartoons, Carl Barks, Floyd Gottfredson, etc.)
Darkwing Duck (Actually, pretty much any Disney TV show from the Wuzzles to Goof Troop)
Looney Tunes
Krazy Kat
Douglas Adams
Magritte
Calvin and Hobbes
A Pup Named Scooby Doo
Tiny Toons
Walt Kelly/Pogo
Daria
mdetector5/~Lorelei27 (maybe a weird one, but I admire the dedication he has to developing his art and characters)
Sailor Moon (when I tried adopting more of an anime style, this is the show I found myself copying)
Eric Stanton
*CMcC /PPG
Genndy Tartakovsky/Dexter's Lab
Bruce Timm/Batman
Richard Sala
Berke Breathed/Bloom County
Bud Grace/Piranha Club
Doonesbury (I loved reading the collections of this as a kid, even though I often didn't understand what was going on)

Man, you have a lot! But if you think you have it bad, well, I'm trying to get together my own influence chart, and I have A LOT of influences, so yeah, it's a little hard for me to decide how to arrange it.

As many influences as I cited here, I'm certain I missed a few. In some ways, I think we're influenced by almost everything we see.

Yeah, pretty much, but this is usually saved for big influences, and I have a lot of influences that I consider big.

Those are a lot of influences. I didn't know I was one of them, though

Thanks!

This is pretty cool all right. I suspect that if I did something like this it would be similarly "wrong." I didn't draw anything in high school or college or well beyond (I'm a late bloomer), but I still had plenty of artistic influences, and several of them coincide with yours.

Bloom County, Calvin and Hobbes & Doonesbury, a trio of aces to be sure. But do "I spy with my little eye" the artwork of Christeen peeking out from under Pogo?

Yes, you do. I was kind of embarrassed about that one and I'm not sure how big an influence that specific artist actually is anyway, but I couldn't resist trying to sneak it in there.

Thanks. Yours was actually one of the ones I looked at when I was trying to figure out what I was doing. I also did a search, but the search will only show the first 1,000 results, apparently, and I did not see an influence map as screwed up as mine turned out.

Wow, there's a lot of stuff here... you need some labels too

Yeah, sorry. I got lazy when I thought about the extra work it would be. Maybe I'll edit this or maybe just make a list in the description. Either that, or people can just ask me if they want to know what something is.

There are three or four items close to the bottom that I don't recognize, that's all...

Also it's kinda cool to read about how each item influenced you...

Wow, so many memories. Have Garfield, Alf, and Baby Kermit ever been together like that?

Ever heard of Cartoon All Stars to the Rescue? It was this special that aired in 1990 that featured appearances from a lot of the popular Saturday morning TV stars of the time, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Winnie the Pooh, Slimer, Bugs Bunny, etc. It was kind of a big deal to see all these characters together, though it would have been a bit cooler if it hadn't basically been a big anti-drug PSA. I think you can probably find the whle thing on YouTube.
