Description
Several months back when I did that Disney composition fav.me/dazu4bw , I was going to do the background myself, but I got partway through the penciling phase when I came to the conclusion that it was more work than it was worth and that I should just use a stock photo instead. I did a nice job on Cinderella's castle, though.Directly below that and to the right, those familiar with L. Frank Baum's Oz series may recognize a couple characters from those books. To the left of them, the drawing of the okapi with the parrot on its back was meant to be an illustration for a story, but inking it was a mistake- it lost something in the process- maybe I should have just left it as a pencil drawing. Anyway, I had to do it over again.
Below that is my original pic of Gaila from the 09 Star Trek movie. It's a perfectly fine drawing, but I put so much effort into the background, perfectly fine was no longer good enough for me, which is why I ended up completely redrawing her. fav.me/dbn51n7
I really like that Popeye sketch for some reason. I should maybe try drawing those characters more.
Below that is mostly a lot of random stuff: some OCs, Ryoko and a couple other Tenchi Muyo characters, Rick and Morty and other miscellaneous doodles, etc. There's also the titular character from an underwhelming anime called NieA_7. As you can see, I tried hopping on the virgin-killing sweater bandwagon, but wasn't too pleased with the drawing I came up with.
I was sitting in the car one day and sketched a hasty self portrait using the rearview mirror. A few minutes later, a guy and girl walked past and, apparently not realizing I could hear him, the guy observed to the girl that someone was sitting in their car drawing. I then heard him add, "Looks like Benjamin Franklin." It's not the best caricature of myself and the guy only could have gotten a fleeting glimpse, but I'd never heard anyone say I look like the guy on the hundred dollar bill before. Anyway, that's why I jokingly added the Ben Franklin quote underneath. Coincidentally, I grew up in a suburb named after Benjamin Franklin.

What's the story of the sketch of Oliver that you did on cardboard?

No story. I was just using the scrap of cardboard to dab excess ink onto as well as test out my wite-out pen, and I did a little doodle of Oliver in the middle of random brush strokes and blobs of wite-out.

The Disney castle sketch is excellent. (On a side note, I went to Disney World when I was 12 (Oliver's age).

Thanks. I also went there once. I can't remember exactly what year it was, but I think I was about the same age as you when you went - maybe a year older.

I recognize the drawings of Mrs. Tabby. I'm guessing that the one of Mrs. Calico in a bikini was inspired by me.

THIMBLE THEATER was a classic and you do Segar very neatly. Is there no end to your talents?

Thank you so much. About a year ago I became slightly obsessed with completing my collection of the Fantagraphics reprint of Segar's Popeye strips (something I waited to do until a couple were out of print and hard to find). Now that I've gotten my hands on them all, I still have yet to finish reading through all six volumes, but they're really nice books to have.

Those are some seriously on-model Popeye cast. Excellent work.
