Description ***Free to use, for non-profit/non-commercial purposes.***

I made this map for the Dungeons and Dragon's game I am running (5th edition). Here is a simple, random swamp encounter map. I plan on making several versions, so as to give some variety to swamp encounters. I may work on it a bit further later, but I wanted to have it finished for our game, and I really just needed something that showed a clear depiction of water and land borders, as well as trees. I might end up adding foliage to it, but I don't want to make it too busy, and hard to read. Anyways, it works as is, so enjoy!

***PRINTING METHODS***
Printing a map this size on one sheet requires poster sized prints, which is really expensive. It can run anywhere from $40-$100 or more, in some places. However, if you print them onto several sheets of regular printer paper and tape them together, it's much cheaper, usually only costing a few dollars. here's how I do it:

1. Download a program called PosteRazor. It's a freeware program that can output a PDF file that separates a larger image into smaller sections that can be printed on regular sized paper. Here's the link: posterazor.sourceforge.net/

2. Upload the map image file into PosteRazor, and choose your settings based on your desired output. You can select the papersize (I choose US Letter size), printer margins, overlapping size (for where individual sheets meet), image size/scale, and image alignment. The last step, once you have the settings how you want them, is to export it into a PDF document, for print.

3. Take/send your PDF file to your local print shop, and ask them to print each page of the PDF file on your chosen paper size (I use US Letter size). Paper size must be the same as whatever you chose in PosteRazor.

4. Take the printed sheets home and use a hobby knife and a ruler (or scissors, if that's all you have), and trim off the white borders where the image was not printed, on each sheet.

5. Tape the trimmed sheets together, where they match on the printed image.

This is really nice. Do you mind if I use it for a session? Same as you DnD5e.

Absolutely! Thanks for asking. Have fun! I provided instructions on how you could print it too, if you wanted to use it. Though I am sure it'd work for digital too. Haven't tried, though. XD

well basically think of it as putting ceramic Tiles to fill a grid. but instead of ceramic it grass, wood, dirt, stone etc
It make untalented people like me do "ok" work for map

Well, I mean, I don't know anything about battletech, so I can't answer that. I made these for D&D, so they at least work for that.

Oh yeah. Nothing like a swamp full of mud and water, and quagmires to make a fight to remember.  Another great map.

RoninDude In reply to ShadowRaven2006 [2017-12-15 20:42:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the party wanted to avoid it, until they heard about some ruined crypts... The call for treasure was too much! We will see how it goes...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowRaven2006 In reply to RoninDude [2017-12-16 04:50:52 +0000 UTC]

the lure of treasure has been the death, or near death of more adventuring parties than just about anything else, in my experience

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RoninDude In reply to ShadowRaven2006 [2017-12-16 05:19:01 +0000 UTC]

Indeed! My party was recently complaining a little about the lack of treasure... And I told them they were being too careful, and the treasure wasn't gonna just land in front of them. So now they are going out to the dangerous areas to search, and I can just feel the tension in the room at game night. XD I love it, and I love their carefully thought out plans. I am so proud!

This is the kind of place where you can fuck up your players the most. You can make them loose crucial equipment or get hella lot beaten up or destroy their moral. Just so they learn how high are the stakes. After this they will deserve a good rest in a swamp side tavern, where they can conveniently meet their new quest giver, or find some interesting info.
Or you know, you can send them to a hellhole so they can fight a ridiculously fast twin boss just so they can enter a crypt with even more shit, like invisible enemies and rolling bone balls that would turn them into pancake.

RoninDude In reply to Freimgul [2017-12-15 20:47:31 +0000 UTC]

I don't like to fuck my party up lol, but I do like to challenge them! I try to keep their fun in mind, when designing encounters, even the deadly ones.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Freimgul In reply to RoninDude [2017-12-17 07:40:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I kinda ment fucking them up like that . In a way they can still enjoy it and keep gettin motivated. It's all in the story telling. A good adventure has it's ups and downs and a good DM must learn how to use the downs in a good way.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RoninDude In reply to Freimgul [2017-12-17 20:16:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I agree! It also depends on the table, too, I suppose. Every table has a different goal with the game, including the level of challenge. Fortunately, my players seem alright with some crazy challenges, and they are smart, too. So I really let them have it, sometimes. They can take it. XD

RoninDude In reply to Kiskez [2017-12-13 19:59:36 +0000 UTC]

It's a battle map for Dungeons and Dragons. Used for keeping track of combat location with miniatures/tokens of the characters/monsters.

Dachimotsu In reply to Kiskez [2017-12-13 16:01:20 +0000 UTC]

It's for tabletop RPGs, like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, etc. This map is where a fight might break out, and it's used to keep track of everyone's positions.
