Tried my hand at an epic pixel piece. Inspired by this lovely work: [link]So, I really wanted to make something simple but powerful. Because with the huge spectrum of differences among Sonic fans, things get really muddled up and drama-tastic. So here's something I hope every fan can enjoy. I really wanted to give the emerald justice as the mysterious, powerful thing that it is. Hope I succeeded!
My favorite version of Sonic's ever-changing design is from Sonic CD, during the animated scenes, because of the simple and charming design. [link]

I love the way that in many of your pieces, the smoke is so defined and colorful. The way it loops around Sonic and the chaos emerald is truly something to behold. And I just found out that this is made in pixel. Because of artists like you on deviantART, I can find ways to better myself. I do have one question: how do you get the lines so crisp?

It's just that the lines look so straight, there's nothing wobbly about them. Did you use a line tool or did you draw them manually? Or maybe it's because it's a bigger picture and I don't notice the minute details so much.

Ohh, yes I see now. Yeah, that was all manual, adding or taking away pixels until the shape looked smooth. That's kinda why I don't do pixel anymore

this is gorgeous! i love that you drew it without antialias, oekaki style. it really makes everything a lot smoother, in my opinion.
looking at it from sonic's perspective, the little details with the lighting, smoke, and sonic's posture, all do an excellent job of making the chaos emerald look like the most powerful thing he's ever seen. very nice work!
