Description A couple of different people have asked me to make a tutorial next time I made a wig. Well, I got this pretty pink fur and wanted to make a wig for Ichigo from it, so I went ahead and took pictures along the way. I hope this is helpful to anyone who wants to make wigs. Ichigo's wig pattern was custom fitted for him, using a different pattern as a template. The original pattern can be found here , compliments of Undead Threads.

Ichigo is an Asian styled ball-jointed doll. His mold is Volks Ko-Tenshi Tsubaki. Ichigo and all rights associated with him belong to me, Rorek.

It looks like Undead Threads is down for the moment, so I've put the patterns on my photobucket for the time being.

I saw this on a cosplay site on wig makingΒ and thought it was a tutorial for a real wig, not a doll's.. Would've liked that to have been the case..

Any idea how well this would work for a normal sized human being? I'm sure there's some cool cosplay wigs you could make that way!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rorek In reply to Free-Falling [2013-02-28 03:59:21 +0000 UTC]

I think I could work, but there are probably better ways in full scale verses 1/3, 1/4, etc. It's a little easier to fudge the details on the smaller scale, where the fur is proportionally much thicker.

FlareTheFox3 [2012-12-01 19:01:22 +0000 UTC]

if the front and the back of the wig are the same then wouldn't the fabric get in the dolls eyes?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rorek In reply to FlareTheFox3 [2013-02-28 03:58:13 +0000 UTC]

Theoretically yes, but the custom fit of the side, and general shape of the doll's head usually prevents this. Some styling is necessary, and you may find that you need to alter the pattern for a better fit for your doll.

do you know what brand the fur is XD
whenever i look for faux fur,its always very very short!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rorek In reply to minya100 [2013-02-28 03:56:50 +0000 UTC]

The fur that I have used, I've ordered online from Distinctive Fabrics. They have short and longpile furs. The ones I've used are considered short, and work best for short fluffy wigs. If you want longer like this pink, that is a longer pile fur. Occasionally I find the faux furs in local fabric stores, usually leading up to Halloween.

I found this very informative, glad I came across it. Do these patterns lend themselves well to making cosplay wigs?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ThestralWizard In reply to alton-nightshade [2012-11-11 23:44:53 +0000 UTC]

Faux-fur patterns are way too short for human head sized wigs, unless you want a pixie hair cut for the wig, than maybe it could work.

alton-nightshade In reply to ThestralWizard [2012-11-12 05:38:23 +0000 UTC]

I was looking for something that I could use as a pattern for a cosplay wig, I did find something and it worked well enough. Wish I had found some fur with a longer pile though, but hindsight is 20/20.

This is a wonderful help for my doll that's coming in the mail in just a few days! I'm not using fur though, I'm brushing a lot of yarn until it becomes super fluffy and soft and sewing it to fabric. I'll post pictures showing how it turned out!

The MSD in question is a 45cm I believe. Ichigo is a Volks Tsubaki, and he has the standard size body.

you wouldn't happen to have a pattern for the tiny sizes would you? the bjd i will be ordering will have 4-5 wig size, or if you can suggested how to alter your pattern then i can do it too. thank you so much

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rorek In reply to Chrissy-77 [2011-10-02 02:28:00 +0000 UTC]

If you printed the yo-size at about 75-80% that might work. I don't have anything specifically for the 4-5 wig size, but I know the Yo-size wig is generally 6-7. You'll probably have to test print it a few times.

can i do this with real fur?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rorek In reply to S-helleh [2011-09-23 22:06:12 +0000 UTC]

I don't know what the results would be with real fur, as I have not had the luxury of access to real fur. I think the only real difference would be finding the lay of the fur before cutting, and taking into account any difference in texture or lay.

I do still have the patterns. I don't know what size you need, so here they are in order of SD, MSD, and Yo-SD.
