Description well since i am still making some more pics for the next posting batch, i thought i'd show you guys something.

so this is the nautiling, the only evolved bipedal cephalopod that has it's external shell. the nautiling evolved from the ancient (modern day to us) chambered nautilus. the nautiling has 90 tentacles but lacks suckers, 2 arms, 2 legs, & 86 retractable/extendable sticky head tentacles,

Updated Information

Nautilings are one of the dominant races of the future earth in the splatoon timeline, the others being inklings, octolings, and, cuttleings. however, nautilings are the rarest of the three.
. all nautlings have cerulean blood.
. just like the other cephalo-sapiens nautlings are carnivores, and love crunchy crustaceans. but they also don't mind fish either.
. and like the inklings they can transform into their humaniod form and their nautilus form at will, however nautlings can't produce ink, like the inklings they can liquefy themselves while transforming.
. since nautlings don't produce ink they can't participate in turf wars.
. a nautling's three hearts are located in their shell.
. only the nautilus form of the nautling can fly.

nautlings are generally a race who not as common as the other cephalo-sapiens, but generally are a peaceful race. nautlings store helium in their gas filled chambers in their shells (in their sea bound ancestors they uses the gas filled chamber to regulate their buoyancy) but the nautling uses their gas chambers to store helium, mainly for, in their humanoid form to keep their heads upright and easy to move around, and in their nautilus the helium filled chambers are regulated to allow them to fly and float around (a nautling flies backwards). the nautilus form of the nautling also has four very long tentacles used for walking on the ground if they so please.
nautlings can live for a long time (as the nautilus lives for about 20 years opposed to the octopuses 5) an average lifespan of a nautling is about 400 years. nautling eggs are different then octolings,inklings, and cuttlings lay a single large egg case in which the case serves as the shell of the egg. the egg case is oddly shaped and laying this egg case is painful but shortly after the egg is laid they stick the egg to large rock of choice, nautling couples have a ritual where the female chooses a male who has the largest and best looking rock in which to serve as a anchor for the egg case. unlike the eggs of the inklings, octolings, and cuttlelings, the nautlings egg case is hard, dry, and waterproof and the youngster inside is still kept moist alive and healthy. the nautlings egg development takes quite some time the egg case 6 months developing inside the mother (in which the squishy has developed quite a bit in that time) once it's laid the egg takes an additional 3 - 9 more months before the baby finally hatches. a nautlings shell is very sturdy and the nautling can retract their whole head into it. nautling necks are very strong, however as a nautling gets very old, all nautlings will face this eventually when they get very old, they will inevitably face their neck collapsing as their aging helium gas chambers in their shells slowly but surely fail to make their heavy shells light enough to keep their head upright and thus die by the collapse of the neck and are unable to move and also closes their air intake suffocating them in the possess too. nautling clothing are specialized as they usually have a zipper behind them as nautlings are unable to pull a standard shirt over their large shells.

I imagine them as secluded people who live far away that later became funny and awkward foreigners.

I think cuttlefish was at one point planned to be a nautilus if the art book is to be believed so I 100% support this idea

Nice artwork. Though, do you think it might be considered derogatory that Nautilings have very poor memory?

nice

though: just like the blue ring octopus, nautilus do not have ink sacs so blue ring octolings and nautlings therefore cannot participate in ink fights/turf war, rank battles, ect.

Yay, i thought, only 4 artist have Nautlings. ;___;
Pretty cool to see a new Nautilus character. <3
My Nautling has black eye and no ear. <3
But i think, the end of your shell should be up to the sky and not down to the ground, if you know what i mean. The shell from this cute animal also don't look to the ground.Β

heh, i seen your
nautling ===> megaloceros-urhirsch.deviantar…

it's really cool how both of our designs are really similar yet so different,

so i guess that nautlings have their shell curling upwards while nautilings have theirs curl downwards. i think that they may be just close relatives.

I was actually talking with someone about a concept akin to this pretty recently....
Though my concept of them wasn't as cute, And they were personified as 'hard-headed', unintelligent, violent tribals known for causing trouble by wandering onto Octarian and Urchin industrial developments and becoming agitated...

Nah, cephalopods rule the world in this era,

And I just about covered all of em, of course there are the inklings and octolings, then there are the cuttlelings and nautilings. Though in the era of splatoon, I think inklings may use lantern fish's descendants as lightbulbs, but seriously, they have zapfish for that.

nautilus don't produce ink? hmm, if so i might have to change the bio.

also they probably can't turf war anyways since they don't really like to fight to begin with.

Ah.
Might I suggest they be troublemakers? Since during the Naughty VS Nice Splatfest, Callie referred to nautilus as "naughty."
