It's odd to think that for all his rep and skills as an assassin, Deadshot is probably one of the safest villains you could be in the same room with. Provided you don't threaten him or his family, or he's not paid to take you out, he's not that bad a guy.

As long as the core concepts of the character remain true, the character's skin color shouldn't matter to hardcore fans... and most people I talk to prefer the SLJ version of Nick Fury over the original character, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say "a Nick Fury". Are you saying you don't want Deadshot to become a more current, relevant, and beloved version of himself? Or is it that you don't DC to build a blockbusting movie franchise featuring Deadshot as a recurring character?

Personally, I think Will Smith was one of the saving graces in that movie. There were a lot worse things to complain about that Will Smith playing Will Smith as Deadshot didn't really bother me.

Let me ask you this:
Do you think a African American woman could play Harley Quinn, with all her background and designs? What about a black Superman? Batman himself? How would you react to someone changing a basic principle of your favorite character, something that might or might not be important but something that has still always been there and adds to the recognizable image to the character, not adding new levels or anything to said character, just changing that one facet, to match their own purposes, and then promoting their creation as the true thing?Β

Sure. I could totally see a black Harley Quinn, Superman, even Batman. Hell, in Earth-27 (my continuity's pet-name) in a few years, a partially Asian and Middle-Eastern character will likely become Batman (also is the case in Batman #666). Honestly, my favorite character from DC Comics is probably the Riddler or Robin. Both have underwent SERIOUS changes. Riddler was a goth in one cartoon and Robin has underwent soooo many changes and been soooo many different characters it's difficult to keep track of.
In the case of Riddler, I admired they tried something new with the character. With Robin, I almost welcome the changes from each iteration of the character. If anything, it only ENHANCES the character's appeal to me.
None of that bothers me. It's called artistic license. I welcome it. I get that you don't and that's okay. Different strokes for different folks. If you feel that I've changed something for NO reason whatsoever and it hurts your butt, then please feel free to boycott my stuff. Go to 9gag and find a community of others who despise me for what I "did" to Deadshot. I am a selfish man as I made a project for myself and chose to share it with people. So sue me.
Also, I don't think I'm promoting my stuff as the genuine article. I've been quite clear, this is a fan-made continuity or 'fanon'. It should be taken as such.

Agreed. As for casting, if a black actor is the best person to play a role, skin color is irrelevant.
Likewise, fictional characters' skin color is easily changed, especially in something like a comic book where characters are constantly re-invented, revitalized, resurrected, rebooted, and revamped.
