In the DCAU in an alternate universe where the Justice League became dictators, and Superman lobotomised all villains, it was interesting actually that when it came to Ventriloquist, Superman lobotomised Scarface, but left Wesker alone. Wesker was still imprisoned and carried Scarface around, but the puppet was silent and placid.

I've allways wished the writers would do more with characters in Batman who have actual psyhclogical conditons liek him, but their just wasted with no significance to them. Awesome work again.

Quite a tragic case as he is in the comics, he is dangerous but also sympathetic so long as we keep him away from Scarface.

Agreed. Most casual fans dismiss him as a silly villain, but when you peel back the layers, you find there is a great deal of depth here: most of it tragic.

Originally at some point wasn't he part of a mobster family? Maybe that is where the Scarface persona came from

Yeah, he has two origin stories.
One is he is a member of a mafia family who sees his mother assassinated and takes up ventriloquy as a form of therapy until he loses it later in life...
The other is he kills a guy in a drunken brawl and goes to prison. In prison he is cellmates with an inmate who carved a dummy from the old gallows tree after it was struck by lightning. Arnold immediately believes the dummy is speaking to him and so he kills his cellmate to "free" the dummy. The rest is history.
I think both stories have merit, so my personal take on it would be that as a child he was a part of a gangster family until his family was massacred. Arnold was spared and raised by another family, but the trauma ate at him until he killed a man in a bar as a young man... and then goes to prison, kills another man for Scarface, and attempts to rebuild his original family's empire, except now with Scarface serving as an outlet for his pent up aggression.
I also like the idea of teasing that there might be more to Scarface than just a simple puppet. Like, he might actually be alive or a magical conduit of negative energy or something. Don't be blatant with it, but tease the possibility that Wesker isn't just a crazy old man who carries a toy around.

Yes they did something creepy like that with the 52 ventriloquist but Wesker is always an interesting case, I liked in the 2004-08 batman cartoon where Wesker actually got free of scarface and became a kiddies entertainer. It showed how tragic he was in a weird and sad way.
Also I like your story take, it's a combination of known elements but has it's merits to explain why he is messed up. Would Peyton Riley come into this?

I did consider using Peyton Riley for this series. I do like her "romantic" relationship with Scarface and I love a good female villain, too... but in this case, I had to favor Arnold Wesker for this series. I might commission an alternate Ventriloquist with Peyton Riley down the road, but for now it'll just be Wesker and his dummy.

Indeed, Peyton was a bit of a Darker Harley in many regards but also a weird one because she was sort of in control

She could make the puppet say what she kind of wanted it to say, so she had some influence in a weird way. Also she would have a grudge against Hush if we go by Heart of Hush flashbacks
