Description
"UNDERWORLD V" (Curiosity) Paint study12" x 12" Acrylic on paper ~ August 2009
This is a painted study for the fifth in my series I call "UNDERWORLD" My vision of the life that thrives in gigantic, yet tiny worlds which surround us, but is also hidden from us.
I plan to re-paint this in a larger, more polished and evolved version.
I am calling this study "CURIOSITY" for now because the living things in the picture seem curious about the inanimate objects; The skull, the crack pipe, and the tablet.

cha! nice work max. love the "tattoo" style skull, and of course, creepy crawly bugs chewing on eye sockets amongst alienish scrubery is always a nice touch.
god, i think i had this trip a couple of times.
back in the day, of course....;0))
love it

I love all the detail and realism, such as with the yellowjackets on top and the pitcher plants etc. I also like the expression on the little guy (?) on the right, (s)he really ties this work together with your others.

Well ... this one is not as "slick" as my normal work ... maybe that's a good thing?
Thank you!

I really love how you paint all this wonderful detail with melody and harmony. Always amazes me how you can get so much life out of every space you make. I love the pitcher plants!

The sundew looks a bit odd, biut the rest of the plants looks brilliant (the skull and insects too)
I really like the idea of that human insect on top of a cobra lily!

Sundew? You mean the flowers in the background? I don't know what those are - not sundew though ... ??
In any case - Thank you!

Oh, i ment it would be. They would match to the other plants (and sundew is my favorite canivore) but if that are flowers that are ugly ones (sry)

I've noticed that you never seem to stray too far from depicting (in the obvious sense or otherwise) drugs use and paraphernalia. I understand your past and whether or not this is a good thing or bad thing is not up to me to decide. I digress. 'Curiosity' is quite a fitting title and I can see the correlation between life beholding death as though right out of a Shakespearean play - life, being insects in this case is a nice touch.
Sorry for rambling.

Rambling? ... Hardly that.
Perceptive.
It's encouraging for me, that you see what I see.
Thank you!

Aye. Off the topic but I'm heading down to Laguna on Thursday for the Sawdust festival and/or The Festival of Arts, which got me thinking... do you ever engage in local events like these? I know the Sawdust is exclusive to Laguna (bunch of a snobby hippy bastards), but none the less. Just curious.
