Description Drawn during Fundamentals of Drawing/Fundamentals of Design today for fun. I haven't drawn Xi in a long time, and I was starting to miss her comparatively cheerful face (compared to Raiko anyway). I'd forgotten how fun she is to draw. Electric-blue hair just looks cool. ^.^

I was originally going to put her in a full kimono and hakama, but then I started thinking about the fights in XMA and the dao and how I want to learn to use that sword since I've lost my taste for using katana*, and the above came out. I actually started doing the fight sketches before I finished her, thus the toplessness, since, to be frank, her breasts served well as point references, particularly for the first and third sketch. That, and I think she looks really cute like that. *shrug*

The fight might be a bit hard to follow, but it would realistically work. Believe me, I got a few stares because my legs were twitching or my hands were moving in order to make sure everything flowed. Xi has a fighting style much like me, emphasizing high kicks and momentum. Fun to do and to draw. I was originally going to have a Soul Calibur-esque color trails for the swords, but it looked like they'd become lightsabers, so I nixed it.

I'm really starting to love coloring in photoshop like this. So much easier than I had thought it would be.

Time: Probably three hours total, though I have no real idea.
2H on 50lb sketch paper, Photoshop 7.0

*This does not mean I dislike the swords, they just don't suit my style of combat

"because my legs were twitching or my hands were moving in order to make sure everything flowed."

Ah! I do that too when I'm drawing. I'm sitting there with the sketch pad on my lap and suddenly I realize that I'm mimicking whatever expression or hand-motion I'm illustrating. Huh.

Yeah. I see it in a lot of other people at school, so it doesn't get nearly the attention it used to. Still, using one's self as a model is cheaper.

College makes you appreciate the meaning of the word "cheap." *wallet cries*

Heh. Being jobless and carless at sixteen (with starving artist parents) also makes one appreciate that word. Yay for crying wallets...?

Don't feel bad about the lack of a job. I didn't have one until the very beginning of senior year, only kept that one for a week. Not counting that one, I've only been employed for a total of six months, seven on the 14th. Something my brother always razzes me about.

Of course, I haven't caused anywhere near the property damage he did at my age, which necessitated a job. -.-;

Heh. Yeah, but I really hate asking my parents for money, considering that (between the four of them and also my grandparents) they're endevouring to pay my way through a private highschool they can't really afford. Also, I want to have some money in the bank because paying for college, car insurance (they'll give me the family beater car if I pay for registration and insurance), etc is going to fall largely upon yours truly, given the whole private school thing. But I'll figure something out eventually.

Things do work out, I've found. Keep an eye out for scholarships, at least. That's what saved my fiscal bacon.

Yeah...scholarships. Well, it helps that I play viola. There are all sorts of scholarships out there for that, thank god.
