Description
During periods like the Cold War, the monsters were probably better off living underground. Even if most of them didn't realize it. : PJust a weird idea that came to mind ages ago but only now came into fruition (why do comics with even the most basic art style take so long for me, argh). Don't take it too seriously.
You can hopefully tell by his facial hair, but Gerson is a lot younger here then he is in the game, since it was back during the 1950s that he briefly visited the surface. You might wonder why he or anyone else didn't try use the exit he found later, but after he got spooked by what was seemingly happening on the surface, he blocked up the passage he found and either couldn't find it again afterwards or entirely forgot it even existed by the time he next felt any desire to try go back to the surface. Take your pick. Either way, he never breathed a word of it to anyone afterwards. X P
As is probably obvious, I used an image of a real Cold War poster here. I find it worth mentioning that for its civil defense film Duck and Cover , meant to educate children and the public about what to do in case of a nuclear attack, the Cold War era government featured a character named Bert. A turtle.

The hell they were! Just think of the ramifications of underground nuclear testing!

Now I just imagine that Gerson has the voice of the "Duck and Cover" tortoise.

That tortoise did have a pretty neat voice. Now I'm between giving him that voice or the voice Jacksepticeye gave him.

Even if Gerson tried to tell people he once journeyed outside the barrier later on, no one would believe him because he's just a doddering old man XDDDD
And how sad is it that I honestly didn't know whether that was a real poster or a poster from the Fallout games until I read your description? The cold war was a strange and scary time.

Haha, probably.
Yeah, I bet. I can't imagine what it must have been like to live in a time where you lived under a constant shadow of fear wondering if any day your area might become the next Hiroshima. You'd never guess from cute shows of the time like Leave it to Beaver or Mr. Ed that there was any kind of threat like this looming over. I'm personally glad I wasn't around during those times.
