Icons of the Library
Third Edition
Samantha Wright
18 October, 2010
14 June 2011: Updated instructions on installation. See below.
30 January 2012: Updated download links. See above.
It's been two years since Library Icons 2nd Ed. came out. This is, of course, too long, but things came up as they so often do. This release includes 918 icons in three different formats (Windows, PNG, and OS X), supporting the maximum resolution of Windows (256×256) and Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 (512×512). The PNG release is also 512×512.
Usage
Mac OS X: I can't help troubleshoot installing the icons since the newest Mac I have runs 10.2. Essentially, however, you want to download the original release of Icons of the Library which was structured and divided up to make the replacement job easier on OS X 10.5 when it first came out. Things have changed a little since then, so it's safe to expect mismatches.
If replacing the resources inside of each app bundle is intimidating, OS X also has icon packagers. Good places to start for icon replacement tips are this article from Apple for general files, and this FAQ for special stuff like application and system icons.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and happy modding!

Sorry about that; I try to seed regularly but I use a creaky old Windows box to do it that isn't always in peak condition. Hopefully that should be alleviated now.

Really sorry about that. With MegaUpload gone we've basically taken a step back into the dark ages.

If there are no seeds or leaches then what's the point? Certainly there must be a better more efficient less frustrating way they can be downloaded?

The archive is 351 MB. Quite simply: no, there isn't, not since MegaUpload shut down. You're welcome to suggest additional BitTorrent trackers, but pretty much every file upload host around these days has draconian restrictions, and I don't think people want to babysit their downloads for the four or five hours it would take to get all of the pieces if I broke it up into parts.

Not a problem. One little note: comments on dA are tree-based, so for maximum recognizability you usually click on the 'reply' button next to a post rather than just adding a whole new comment at the bottom.
But, yeah, I did get your note and since there were only a few icons listed I'm going to see if I can churn them out myself for maximum regularity.

thanks,
if i wanted to add some missing apps to the books, how would i get the photoshop copies to expand, or is that bad to ask?
I'm amazed at the detail of the icons.

Pick out which books you want to work from, and I'll gladly send them over! My only requirement is that you give the PSDs back to me afterward so I can polish them up and include them in the next version, with appropriate credits of course. Alternatively you can just ask; I'm more than happy to do a few!

The original wallpaper is here . The dock is included in the 'Leopard Bundles' zip, which is included in the torrent.

I can't imagine the sort of work that went into making this, you must have the patience of a saint several dozen saints.
Anyway, these look great, and refreshingly unique too - I've never seen an icon set like it before.

When you really get into it, many only take a few seconds—just swap out the text and you've got yourself a new file type. Google Image Search plays a major role in most, though—I have desperately little skill as a vector artist, excepting perhaps Doom maps.

My experience with Inkscape is that the only thing it lacks is tablet support.

In a similar vein, one could say that the only thing Emacs lacks is a good text editor—then, hopefully, the joke is clearer

Wow, so beautiful! I just love these icons and they look so nice on my OS X!!! I can't wait for your next edition...
Just out of curiosity is there a THIRD EDITION for Windows coming? And if so, does it come with a .bat file or something that automatically installs basic icons (i.e. word, computer, documents, etc.). If not w/e these are great!!! Keep up the good work!
