I hope you guys enjoy this tutorial series about the fundamentals of art!

This tutorial series was designed for beginners in mind. Material was purposely left simplistic and general to peak interest into further exploration on one's own.

If you found these, or any other tutorial, helpful, please spread the word and share them with your friends x3 That really helps me out and I'd super appreciate it!

hey
i don't wanna be mean but
these aren't the basics at all ?

1) "lines" aren't a basic in themself, that's part of the codes of representation. what lines you use and how will change depending of what you have to communicate. (ex : strenght, action, how far a thing is, effects of smoothness or of blockiness ect...) plus lineless art is a thing, and so is art that uses elements other than lines

2) shape ???? what the heck, that's for building of characters so to express precise things and in composition at best but using PURE shapes is really rare unless in really modern art, and if you meant "outline" well yeah. it IS a basic in animated stuff for example and illustration, but i doubt you mean it that way. it's about when you draw, if you fill something entirely in black you should still retain the basic idea of what's going on (ex : a character who is handling something , for basic readibility reasons, is often better off holding it slightly away so their arms and the held item are appart from the main shape of the body)

2) value ? um, as you represented it, that's a consequence of implementing volumes, or because you want specific effects and meanings linked to a certain pallette and so that can stem from codes of representation as well. (and since when do you separate value and colours ??????)

3) form ? what. are you trying to say volume or anatomy or proportions or- fuck, I give up

4) space ? c'mon. that's perspective and composition here obviously. how can you pretend to be serious if you can't use basic vocabulary like that.

5) colour is linked to art codes and their meaning in these, composition, and reality if you work with that. but setting it appart from value is.... dumb.

6) again, texture is the result of implementing volumes and such, and work on colours and lines if you use some and blah blah blah.

all of what you wrote are the CONSEQUENCES of implementing said basics, and what people attach a meaning to once in very basic art /analyse/. in art analyse you do a sort of reverse engineering of art, where you go "that colour/shape/line is used here because [basic], it means in consequence [meaning]". and even then, not everything go here. it's truly.... just. shit people who don't know much notice in art, that's all. that's literally a list of what watchers are sensible to when they first look at a thing, that's all, and even then a bunch of stuff are misnamed and separated when they shouldn't be. you gotta be careful about these, indeed, but they aren't the basics themself. the basics are WHY you have to be careful about that stuff.

the basics are what art codes are used (ex : manga codes, classic codes, cartoon codes, the very specific set of restrains modern artists tend to use, ect...) the rules of composition that come with these, anatomy/perspective/proportions if used in that set of codes and with the deformations that might be applied as well to them, how colours are used individually, together and also depending of everything noted before, ect... they're very complex, all in relation to each other and there are a fuckton of these and hard to make a list of (yes I missed some, if not many), despite their name "basics", they're called this way because they're the base you build art on, not because they're simple. they aren't the first thing you see either, unless you had an artistic training. please, do check what you're saying before you say stuff you pretend are facts when they aren't /at all/.

These are the fundamentals of art. I'm not sure what you mean by "basics." I have checked what I'm saying, and have been taught what I'm saying. Perhaps you should look more into the fundamentals? I don't think you understand what they are.

*dying to be profesionnal art student noises*
who the fuck taught you that
the fundamentals are something you use to build your art. this is stuff that are mere results of these fundamentals. i am an art student. this is stuff we aren't even /taught/ due to how fucking /obvious/ it is.
you don't have these fundamentals hence why your characters can't even /stand/ in your art or look like they have off proportions/symetry and broken articulations and such.
oh also,

www.yjstudios.com/blog/wp-cont…
friend did a lil research while i was busy writing an entire fucking wall about art history, she says you merely took this absolutely out of context sites.google.com/a/bps101.net/…
and that in context.... it's what i said.

Several art teachers, online and in person, as well as most every website I looked at when researching deeper on the subject. I've seen several different areas of art be referred to as the "fundamentals", but none more so than the list I used in this tutorial. Regardless, I still find the information valuable and worthwhile to teach. These aspects of art are important too.

As for my art skills, improvement is a never ending process.

hey, just one thing i wanted to write
"these aspects of art are important too"
never said they weren't, just say that they depend of what i said right over here, and rather consequences more than true elements used in art. you don't use "colours" or "space" to draw. you use perspective and composition, and link colours/values to certain volumes, or uses of certain colour palettes so to convey meanings, which depend of art codes. textures are a result of a choice in both representation of volumes, art codes and such. something fluffy won't have the same meaning as something shown as in stone.
what you wrote right here, taken in a pure way... that's what you tend to, in fact, learn how to really precisely implement last, since they're what give power to art and impress onlookers and really put in value all the badass learning of your bases. if you lack knowledge about composition, anatomy, perspective, proportions and stylistic codes, it just passes off as a sloppily built mess that's been put make up on.
so it's not the bases. it's what you use to show off your bases and dress them up.

ok then please do explain what do you set behind the things you wrote right here. i /dare/ you to say neither bullshit nor what I said.
