Description It's a good place to eat. It doesnt exist. I used some flamboyant textures here. The brushed aluminium was used a lot as well.
What can I say, visit it, but if you want a burger, it may not be served!

The wall pictures in the restaurant are derived from a good samaritan Deviant -> [link]

This has some spectacular architecture ...fabulous lighting ...a ton of space All great!!!

But that balconey had better be in use I hate it when I go to a restaurant that has a balconey but you can't sit in it because of "saftey precautions"

heh ...anyway, lovely render

Hey! thx for the rocking cool comment, I had written a nice long reply but apparently it didnt get sent! doh!

Anyway...yeah, definitely the stairs a balconey will be operational, we'll just use high tensile I-beams and cover them with timber flooring. It will hold up to 30+ moving ppl if they manage to fit there but is of course designed for 15 to occupy comfortably.

thx m8!

No probs! Hmmm, I don't think I've heard of those... AccuRender does ring a bell, but I've never tried them... are they any good?

AccuRender is not as powerful or diverse as Max but its invaluable for Architectural folks like me who work in CAD...later we can take it to Max as well..... cheers man!

Thanks for the nice comment indeed...... Im not great.. because...as Pink Floyd said.... "I am you and you are me"...

Anyway... I use ACAD 2004 and then I use the Arcchitectural Rendering programme called AccuRender 3.1, which Ive been using since I was a student 3-4 years ago...it plugs into ACAD....it comes under other names for other modelling softwares like "Flamingo" for "Rhino3D".

Anyway if u have any doubts, just shoot away, architecture is cool, architects are cooler

Have a nice day!

Very impressive render. You've achieved somethign on a pretty grand scale here, I admire that. A few critiques, however:
-The room's contents say restaurant, but the colors and lighting say art gallery (or maybe truck stop diner). It's very harsh and bright. I would suggest darker, richer textures and warmer, moodier lighting to achieve a more restaurant feel.
-I'm very curious why anyone would use white tiling on their floor, and then use plain brown wooden planks for their ramp. Those two textures don't seem to go together.
-I'm not sure about the atmosphere effects on the main box lights. The rest of the room is not set up in a way that suggests dust or moisture in the air, making those dusty / misty areas look very out of place.
-Shiny is great, but there's such a thing as too clean. Smudge up your chrome parts a bit with a grunge map (just a little of course. But even a pixel or two of dust in their will make it a lot more believeable.)
-The wall texture repeats fairly obviously. The eye rejects that quickly, so look for textures that are more difficult to track if you're going to tile them. Alternatively, use textures that don't need to be repeated.

Now for what I did like: Absolutely incredible structural creativity. I can see you've probably spent time in design classes. The building and the objects inside it are very nicely done and have a lot of visual interest. The lighting is also very believeable (with the exception of the atmospheres mentioned earlier.) The arrangement and placement of lights is exactly what I'd expect in the real world. I commend you for completing something on this scale, and I look forward to seeing more work from you in the future.

Mighty good comment. One of the best I reckon. When I posted this piece some weeks back, I also posted it back to the architectural news group (Accurender) and also got good feedback like this. Since this is an art site, I reckoned more starry eyed comments and that is mostly true.

- I agree about the lighting being too harsh though I think the textures are great for a theme like this - nice cold materials with warm tones (family of brown). I do have something in mind way deep down which will be more intimate lighting for a future rendering thoough...

- "Those two textures don't seem to go together." -> Exactly, thats why I did it

- haha...yes the atmospshere...ur spot on...I was influenced by that from smoky pool rooms...if I give u a dollar, will u never ever mention it again?

- Shiny Aluminium -> Agreed 100%, this is what the NG had to complain about as well, I need to give it a more mute sandpapered look.

- The wall texture repetition is not really too visible esp. since its broken by the the other elements in the foregorund and I think ur the only one who seemed to feel its stiched, I respect that and will cater for the most extreme eye as well.

Loved ur comments and appreciate the time u took to discuss about it, thx a lot mate! And I will definately look into all ur suggestions 'cos thats the only way to go ahead.

I recommend looking throught the Attention To Detail video series on DVGarage.com (you'll have to register to get into the Lab and the videos. it's free) He works through a lot of ways of achieving realism in digital work.

....ok..then I'll give u a similar reply I gave to Memod ->

Thx for the wonderful comments.

I agree about the aluminium...I shud have gone for brushed aluminium, less shiny and less distractive to the eyes.

The pictures are definately meant to *float* in the air with those little tiny plexiglass/perspex plumbs to hold them Ive done this in real life and its a nice effect, even the plumbs are semi transparent!

Thanks for good suggestions, I will note all ur comments in order to improve the works.

I have used ACAD 2004 and AccuRender 3.1. I have tried the German software AllPlan but it is very unfriendly for usage.

Cheers mate!

memod In reply to ??? [2004-11-19 22:24:39 +0000 UTC]

hey, that's quite nicely done. a nice location, and definately stylish. yet, I have a few critiques
first of all, what is really disturbing, is that many materials are *too* shiny. or better, too bright. if you are trying to make chrome, then you should keep it darker, if you are rather heading for aluminium, then you might want to reduce shinyness and reflectiveness
then the images on the walls seem to hang in the air... I have to look *really* closely to see those small supporters, and last but not least I'd suggest to place a few strong and really warm (orange-ish?) lights, to create a nice and comfortable ambiente
anyways, that's a nice scene, well modelled and quite complex
well done (which software package if I may ask?)
