Hi. The following commands should be enough to set the themes.
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme "Numix Dark"
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences theme "Numix Dark"
Let me know if it helps.

I see strange thing.. In "about box" of some apps like SMplayer, there is lack of close and maximize buttons on the window bar.
Here is my Mint 16 Mate:
i.imgur.com/01ntAhl.png
And here is screen from Andrew's today post on WebUpd8:

I don't know.. this is Mint issue or Numix theme issue?
BTW, thnx for a great theme!

Hi. Numix uses the latest version of metacity and the behaviour is same as Adwaita, it doesn't show close button for dialogs. Ambiance uses an older version and doesn't have this behavior.

Ok, thnx for info.
There is any way to "restore" those buttons or do I need to get used to their absence? ))
The lack of those buttons is sometimes problematic.
In some apps there is no other way to close window, as ppm on bar and choose "close window" from pull_down menu, or by alt+F4.

Restoring them will require modifications to the theme file which is not easy. Get used to it. Modal dialogs mostly have a button to close them. So you don't need a close button the window manager bar anyways.

Yeah. I also run into occasional problems like this in non-gnome and old apps. You can right click the titlebar and close it though. Modal dialogs are supposed to have a close button.

Exactly, this issue occurs most frequently in QT and Java_based apps (JDownloader etc).

hello,
i have both the light and dark themes however in the pdf reader evince the window options are all smashed together and the background is solid black in both the light and dark versions of the theme.
For comparison the top picture is with your theme, and the bottom picture is with "orion" standard theme that came with the os.
I don't have this issue with any other themes nor have your themes caused any issues. I'm very happy with them except for this.
Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks!

It appears to be a permission error. Can you do the following,
chmod -R 775 "/usr/share/themes/Numix Flat Light/" and try again?

No luck unfortunately - I get a couple pages of this
...
chmod: changing permissions of ‘/usr/share/themes/Numix Flat Light/xfwm4/maximize-prelight.xpm’: Operation not permitted
chmod: changing permissions of ‘/usr/share/themes/Numix Flat Light/xfwm4/title-5-active.xpm’: Operation not permitted

chmod: changing permissions of ‘/usr/share/themes/Numix Flat Light/xfwm4/top-right-inactive.xpm’: Operation not permitted
...
I tried switching to another theme first and restarting. As root when I run chmod:... I get no errors however when I launch evince I still get either of these
(evince:2087): Gtk-CRITICAL **: _gtk_css_section_to_string: assertion 'section != NULL' failed

(evince:2087): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to parse /usr/share/themes/Numix Flat Dark/gtk-3.0/settings.ini: Permission denied
I am admin, this is on both xubuntu 13.10, 14.04 and with both light/dark themes. Only evince nothing else is weird.

Hi, satya164. Me again.
I was wondering... Is it possible and easy to make the window theme top corners totally squared and sharpened? Please, see the attached screenshot for a better understanding.
postimg.org/image/gg88g1kpl/
When I say "possible and easy", I mean something I can do it by myself, you know. You just tell me what to do here, if you don't mind, and I change the pieces of code needed to make that happen. I'm not asking you to change your theme, that's not the point. I just want to do that here, on my own computer only.
If it is something easily doable and if you could share the solution, I would really appreciate it. If it is something difficult that involves a lot of tweaks and stuff, never mind. No problem. I understand it, OK?
Thanks for your attention.

Hi. I believe you should be able to do it. 👍: 0 ⏩: 1
You have to edit the files metacity-theme-2.xml or metacity-theme-3.xml, depending on the version of metacity you're using (if you use Gnome 3, it is 3).
Just find these codes, rounded_top_left="1" and rounded_top_right="1" and change "1" to '0" or "false".
Also, remove the sections with
That should be all.

I tried what you suggested but I didn't get a "perfect" corner. See attached screenshot, please.
postimg.org/image/5a1y42lgn/
The image on the left is how it is now, after the change. The image on the right is how I want it to be.
1. I had to change the metacity-theme-2.xml. Changing metacity-theme-3.xml has no result. I use Ubuntu 13.10 with default Unity (I don't know if it matters).
2. These are all the lines I changed:
3. Those sections you told me to remove, if I remove them, the window borders get totally messed up. If I keep them, it works.
Well, as you can see on the screenshots, it's almost perfect. Do you have any idea what to change to get that perfect corner?
Thank you very much for your help, buddy.

Hi, satya164. I've been using your theme for while and I have to say this is one of the best (maybe "the best") themes I've ever tried. It is really fantastic! I always recommend it to all my friends who also use Linux.
Recently, I've noticed something that, I confess, I don't like very much. Of course, everything is matter of taste, so please don't get me wrong. Maybe you and lots of other people like it, but I don't. Anyway... please, take a look at the following screenshot (link) for a better understanding.
postimg.org/image/nu70hy7hv/
My point is the "buttons". In Numix theme, they are too close! Actually, they are kind of stuck together! There's no space between them. In Ambiance theme, you can see that there is a perfect space between the buttons. I say "perfect space" because, in my opinion, it's a needed space, I mean, it makes more sense to have the buttons separated, even by a little space. And most of themes have those buttons separated.
I don't know if this is a bug or if it is designed like that on purpose. Anyway, I just wanted to report this. If it's designed on purpose, that's OK, but is there any way I can put a space between them? I mean, any parameter in your theme code I could change to get the buttons separated, without breaking the rest of the theme, of course. If so, I would really appreciate how to do it, if you don't mind.
Well, that's it. Congratulations for your theme. It's really awesome! And I look forward to seeing your distro!
Thanks for your time, buddy. Cheers.

Hey. Thanks a lot. Very nice to hear from you.
There is actually no option to change the spacing between elements AFAIK. As far as Ambiance is concerned, there are some fundamental differences from Numix in the structure of the theme. Numix is written in pure CSS, while Ambiance is written with a mix of CSS and SVG pixmaps. The border of the buttons are actually pixmaps. So they are wider than the borders in Numix.
The space between the 2 buttons could be the combined result of the extra space on the borders.
I'm not sure though. This could be due to some recent patches to the theme to fix another bug. Does this happen in all dialogs? If not, it's application specific problem. I would like more details though, like which GTK version and which app.

Hey, thanks a lot for the screenshots.
Can you try something? Open the gtk-widgets.css file in the gtk-3.0 folder in the theme, search and remove the following,
GtkMessageDialog,
.prompt {
-GtkDialog-content-area-border: 0;
-GtkDialog-action-area-border: 0;
-GtkDialog-button-spacing: 0;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
Then logout and login back (or restart nautilus). If the bug doesn't go away, I'm afraid, I don't know what's the cause. The code is for GTK 3.12 anyways and I don't know if it'll affect GTK 3.8 or not.
Last time I checked everything was okay. But I'm on GTK 3.12 right now, so cannot really test.

In GTK, apps can ask for a dark theme.
Mostly media apps ask for a dark theme, like Totem.
In case of Ambiance, it doesn't have a dark theme, so Totem uses the normal theme, whereas Numix provides a dark theme, so Totem uses the dark theme.
If you don't want the dark theme, remove/rename the gtk-dark.css file.
