Name: Fugnum

Type: Grass/Ground

Name Origin: Fungus/Fango (Italian for mud) + Gnome 

Inspiration: Gnomes/dwarves, myconids/walking mushrooms, various mushrooms (fly amanita, morel, earthstar, starfish fungus, bloody tooth fungus, ghost fungus)

    When designing the Pokemon, characters, and location for this region I came up with 3 main themes: adaptation and speciation (specifically to vacant niches in isolated environments or after extinction events), exploration and discovery of hidden things (cryptids, lost worlds, and forbidden knowledge), and our relationship with the past (my past, the Earth's past, people running away from or unable to let go of their pasts). These next two entries will focus on the first theme of adaptation and speciation. Fugnum is a Pokemon that would vary in both appearance and ability based on what habitat it is found in. This can be seen as speciation within a genus due to living in different biomes or it can be interpreted as a nature spirit closley tied to the environment. They come in Grassland Form (based on the fly amanita and possessing the ability effect spore), Forest Form (morel/ some kind of fire related ability), Swamp Form (earthstar/water absorb), Island Form (starfish fungus/stench), Mountain Form (bloody tooth fungus/possibly regenerator), and Cave Form (ghost fungus/illuminate). This list should also give you a pretty good idea for what kind of ecosystems to expect in this region and roughly what order they will be encountered in. In addition to grass and ground moves they would probably learn fairy and poison moves as well. Thanks to all of my friends and family for suggestions on the design.
