The funny part is that most of us are the antithesis of ignorant. The large majority of us have researched arguments for both sides, looked at every possible angle, even read the Bible from cover to cover. That's how we've come to the conclusion that there cannot realistically be a god.
But no worries; we've all been called ignorant many times before. We just know that most of the time, there are three fingers pointing at you.

I don't point, that's rude and doesn't the thumb have a say in this? It's not pointing at either you or me. A third party perhaps
?
In school kids are taught that we're all products of evolution and that we are all accidents. When this teaching is grounded in their brains at an early age they tend to stay closed minded and not let other opinions go in. This causes them to be bias. Have you, yourself, attempted to "read the Bible from cover to cover"? Have you tried to look at it from "both sides", with every single angle imaginable as you have claimed the "large majority" has done? Have you ever left your own biased opinions alone and tried to look for truth with a fresh start, open mind and honest heart?
And food for thought: If you truly DO believe in evolution then you must also believe that the earth's magnetic field had, at the very least, three times more magnetism than a magnetic star 32,000 years ago. The earth's magnetic field loses its magnetism at a constant, (but more likely a decreasing) rate. Also, 20,000 years ago the earth should have dissolved because of the heat generated by such an unusually strong magnetic field. How on earth am I able to type this right now?

Oh, correction from my post, I didn't read Revelations as well as it's not exactly the most sane transcript to read. You'd think he and the biblical committee who allowed it in the NT were on shrooms when writing/reading it.

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the more-elaborate-than-usual comment. It's a nice change from what I'm used to seeing.
The theory of evolution does not tell us that we are accidents. That's a huge misunderstanding of what it stands for. While the genetic mutations all organisms experience are random (and any geneticist can prove this), natural selection is not. If that mutation just so happens to give you even the slightest of an advantage over others of your species, you will be more likely to survive and deliver your set of genes to the next generation. That's what natural selection is. If you have a way with the ladies, chances are you will reproduce more often and populate the future generation with your genes. That's sexual selection. It's those little things over a long period of time that eventually shapes us, be it the beginning of a propulsion mechanism on a small animal or a method of retaining and utilising information to one's advantage (which is how we grew to dominate other species).
I for one only learned about evolutionary theory in my biology class, which just finished this semester (of course I've known about it from interest a long time before that). So I don't suffer from this bias you speak of, and I doubt anyone would have it "grounded" in their brains often enough for it to be a source of bias -- I can't say the same about religion, however.
Yes, I have read the Bible from cover-to-cover during the summer of 2009. I only read Matthew of the four canonical gospels, however, as I don't have the attention span of suffering through four different accounts of the same story. And I'll have you know that I was a Catholic from my birth to my ninth grade, so I can relate to both sides quite easily.
As for your magnetism factoid, it's a common Creationist argument and I urge you not to utilise it, as it has debunked (along with many others) at talkorigins.org, sourced and backed by scientific evidence, specifically here . It's a nice site to explore if you have any queries or doubts, and you can rest assured that it is accurate as I've seen a few notable speakers reference it.
Unfortunately my opinion has been securely made, but I am never ever closed to new suggestions. I don't accept them naively, mind you. Feel free to try, however, as it's refreshing.

I just had to comment; how is the theory of evolution in any way related to electromagnetism?
The reason we do truly believe in both of these phenomena is because we can actually make them happen, through selective breeding (evolution) or electricity generation (magnetism; which is major contributor to you being able to type the previous comment, I believe). However to my knowledge, researchers have not yet devised a method of clapping our hands and creating a fresh universe in six days.
We can and have created a magnetic field many millions of times more powerful than the earth's, it's called an MRI scanner.
As to how the earth has not melted itself to oblivion with the strength of its field; to induce heat via a magnetic field requires a high concentration of materials with metallic properties in which to induce electron flow (current) which in turn produces heat. It also requires a 'changing' magnetic field with a rate far greater than the earth's gradual decline.

I didn't try to make it seem like evolution and electromagnetism were related, I just wanted to have some starting ground so I could build. (I typed that at 1 in the morning so I was a bit tired, I apologize ). Seeing as how evolutionist believe the earth to be around 4.5 billion years old, I just thought that it would make sense if I could slide in the magnetic field idea (but that's just me at 1 AM).
Selective breeding. Yes, you can pick an animal with one trait and breed it with another to get that desired trait. However, even if the offspring has the genotype or phenotype that you wanted it would STILL be in the same genetic pool. Traits that are different from what a normal animal would look like are either caused by a mutation or it's still in the same gene pool, just a little way off.
And as for electricity generation, I haven't learned enough in school to go into full detail with it (I will next year though). I just don't want to feed you the wrong information, that wouldn't be nice . I want to say that I know everything but, unfortunately, I don't, and it's wrong of me to think that. I do know, however, that my last paragraph from earlier is completely true.
Creating the universe. Two things: First, God didn't clap, he spoke the universe into existence. Second, we are man, not God. God can do anything He wants while man has caused himself to be flawed.
MRI scanner - not millions of times stronger but around 30,000 times stronger (as with one tesla).
But I do feel like I'm digging a deeper grave by responding . I know I probably contradicted myself several times. Like I said, I don't know everything and there are obviously flaws and mistakes in what I'm typing, I'm not afraid to admit that.
"A fair result can be obtained only by fully stating and balancing the facts and arguments on both sides of each question"
-Charles Darwin.

Although we must agree to disagree (cheesy I know), it is obvious you have thought through all possibilities quite thoroughly, before reaching your current stance on reality. And I seriously admire you for that.
There is far too much acceptance of what is told without proof or logical hypotheses to back it up; 'blind thinking, leading to the building of ignorant 'philosophical armies'. Which is why I think many atheists argue so forcefully against those of a spiritual nature.
My beliefs are an acknowledgement of a concept you have stated; that man is FLAWED. And because I am flawed I distrust the impressions and emotions I appear to feel with the 'heart', what is fear, love, itchiness? They are individual impulses interpreted by a complex logic matrix that serve their own purpose.
Every child believes in magic or the impossible it is another thought process in all human brains, and I treat it so and realise that it too must be flawed. I hear voices in my head, but I don't attribute them to an all powerful but otherwise undetectable being, they are another flaw in a fallible piece of flesh and I ignore them as such.
and I think I've rambled on enough... call me crazy

It's because people have taken the words of the "holy books" literaly. They seriously believe that Moses spoke directly to God (as did others). No they absolutely did not. They used this kind of speach to educate the masses back then, when most people where uneducated and had no idea of what religion is.
To put it in a way that they would understand : What kind of a father would discriminate among his children? What kind of a father would speak to one and ignore the other?
If anybody believes that he can trully speak and listen to God, please, I beg you, GO PUBLIC and let's see if you'll end up in a mental institution in less than 24h.
Always, that's just my opinion eh

CCski In reply to Sc1r0n [2011-06-11 17:10:47 +0000 UTC]
It's not that God discriminates against His children, it's more like His children discriminate against Him.
It's not that our Father picks favorites among us. If you are talking to both of your children, one of them is fully attentive while the other is covering his/her ears, which of them do you think is going to get the message?
And yes, God DOES speak directly to people (many times), it says so in the Bible. It's true, however, that it doesn't occur to much as of the modern age. That's because times have changed. People were wondering this during the 400 years of Silence after the Old Testament ended (with Malachi) and before the New Testament started (with Matthew).
And I do believe that saying that I will go to a mental institution in less than twenty-four hours is rather rude. Why aren't priests and preachers in the asylum? Why isn't every single person who attends church on Sunday go to the funny farm?
I know that you're going to say that I have a very closed mind and that I lack a sense of humour. I can assure you that it is not me who has a closed mind. Please keep in mind that there are people who DO feel hurt by your comments.
And I also have some questions for you. If the rest of deviantart weren't here to back you up and to scold the rest of us Christians for being insane would you still have posted this? Would you still have made fun of us? For our beliefs and the one and only thing that we would ever want to die for? Please take my questions seriously.
And the other girl who posted on the first page of comments, I do admire her for being the first to stand up. I do agree that there is nothing to lose in following the holy teachings of God. I will, however, not apologize for something I shouldn't be sorry for.
And how do you know that us believers shouldn't be offended by something like this? Do you even have the right to say something like that? And as you have said earlier you "love the drama" and want "more views." Do you not find that a little selfish? As you make a "humourous" poster and make fun of us?
I am forcefully in only this aspect of life. What I also recently noticed is this: you tell us to "Fell free to express your thoughts on praying" (and don't try to edit your description box, we all know that you spelled "feel" wrong). You tell us to express our thoughts yet you tell us to not be offended and mock us for having "no sense of humour."
I know you'll bash on me for this. I'll be standing by for a comment if you read all of this.

Amen to this! Thank you for staying so strong during this heated debate. As u can tell from my apologizing, I'm not the best debater. I've always had people putting me down and making fun of me for what I believe. So ive cone to fear debates over time (I know I know, coming from the first one to comment and challenge this! ha ha!) but ur right! I shouldn't be sorry for my faith and I never will be! I'm open minded and respectful, but I'm adamant in my faith and love for Jesus Christ! So I'm glad there are people with courage and a strong voice to stand up for we Christians who are tired of being ridiculed for believing. I admire u for that!
And I would like to add that I find the whole "insanity" thing hilarious! (omg a Christian with a sense of humor! See everyone! We do have a sense of humor!) all I have to say is if loving Christ, the one who died not only for my sins but all of our sins (whether u choose to acknowledge it or not) is deemed Insane, well then lock me away! I'm as crazy as they come!!

When I was typing that I was so fired up that I wasn't really thinking with my head xD but my heart. I think I was a little bit rude to point out that you had said sorry earlier, and I apologize for that >_<. I usually don't go this far to get my point(s) across to someone but when I knew that someone (and that someone being you ) was being severely outnumbered, I wanted to help
. Good thing this is the internet where it's anonymous.
But if I were to be truthful, I don't think I'd be able to debate like that if it were face to face with an actual person.
And I agree, we're as crazy as they get !!

I totally get what ur saying. I had to edit so much of my comments in the beginning so I wouldn't sound offensive. I really hate hurting people's feelings (yet I let them mock me all they want?)
And there's no need for you to apologize. U were right! Why should I apologize for excersizing my freedom of speech and more importantly my freedom of faith? I need people like u to call me out and stop me from being such a wimpy pushover, letting people more outspoken than myself walk all over me. It's something I've had to work on in my own life. And thank you for coming to my aid! I needed ur help cuz sadly, we r outnumbered. Good thing God existence isn't something we vote on! lol!
And Hooray for the crazy people!! we're a bunch of crazy happy Jesus Freaks!

Look, I respect your opinion, I have nothing against you personaly. I'm not the type of a person that's going to bash you just for believing what you believe. Everyone has a point of view regarding religion, so do I. I don't care if others see me as selfish for making a poster like that, as I don't care being sarcastic about myself and who I am. I let others judge me and make fun of me. You see, there's a reason why I let the comments open to this kind of deviations. I highly support people to create drama.
Maybe drama isn't the right word. Buzz maybe? Call it whatever. I don't support people bashing around other people for their beliefs, but it happens. My deviation purpose was not to make fun of you or any other person. It's just a personal opinion.
Sorry if it offended you, but as I said before, I'm happy because people are standing up for what they trully believe in. Whatever it is. Sad part is that "the internet" is not a good place for this type of conversations, as many things said here can be misunderstood you know.
So, If anyone here bashes you for what you believe in, just don't answer. Be smart. Thank you for being polite in expressing your opinion and beliefs
