Description
If offended, please try to think before you speak. It's a serious question asked in a reasonable way. In modern days NOBODY would believe her. The fact that people "believed" her back then can only imply three things :1. She was really telling the truth and had undeniable evidence
2. She lied, her husband knew she was lying but in order to avoid public humiliation they all covered it up and the lie went out of control (lol)
3. Aliens kidnaped her but who would believe that aliens exist?
Seriously people, it's a joke. Try to laugh and throw away that misery. If writing a nasty comment makes you happy so be it. At least I'll know that either way I made good.

*Clapping* No damn virgin can get pregnant. Was she married? If not, then she was lying. She was lying because she didn't want to go against anything. So she said she was still a virgin.

You do not believe in God, Joseph did. Besides, when an angel of God appears in front of you, you listen.

If an angel appeared to you and told you your wife is pregnant with god's child, you'd listen and said "ok"?

If an angel appeared in front of you, would you be impressed enough to listen to what they had to say?
Your scenario would not happen, God has only one begotten Son, there will never be another.
At first Joseph was not going to go ahead with the marriage. That was why the angel was sent, to explain to Joseph that this was part of God's plan, that Mary was still a virgin, that the child was not the product of 'another man', but of God. That Mary would be a good wife to him. That Joseph was part of God's plan, so was Mary, and so was the child.
It makes no sense to you, because you do not believe in God (or angels), but the birth had been prophecied, see my tag, Isaiah.9:6-7, hundreds of years before. There are many prophecy of the birth of this child, they were all fulfilled in Christ. Joseph knew all those prophecies, he was a devout Jew. When the angel spoke to him, he knew it was the truth.
Joseph knew & trusted God. He had just been spoken to by an angel of God.

I can tell you've been reading a translated version of the bible am I correct? You see, in the original Greek version Jesus wasn't even born of virgin birth. We can't even tell if he was born in a stable or Nazareth. How can you take literaly a book that contradicts itself again and again? Would you do the same thing with any other book?
Now, about the prophecies for Jesus and prophecies in general.People have been waiting for a Messiah to come in their own lifetimes ever since there was any kind of religion. Prophecies are so generic that the "end times" can fit anywhere. Even Jesus himself said that his return would be soon enough for his own students to see it. Did he mean see it in real life or see it because they will be with him? For me, that's the biggest problem about the bible or any religious text like it. People take it too seriously and too literaly and mostly haven't read it fully.
Finaly,to answer your question. If I saw an angel or hear any kind of voices and still had a tiny bit of sense left in my poor brain, I would check myself into a mental institution as soon as possible.

All versions of the Bible have been translated. The Judaic books were first translated from Hebrew to Greek, then to other languages. The N.T. was first written in Aramaic & Greek, in the end, they were all in the Koine Greek, then into different languages. What 'original Greek' Bible are you speaking of, because I know of none that do not agree that Mary was a virgin when she conceived.
Source please. Which 'original Greek version' are you speaking of? We know He was born in a stable, we know He was born in Bethlehem. I don't know what book you are reading, you sound confused to me.
The New Testament earliest copies were written in 'koine' Greek, which is not the same as Modern day Greek, nor was it the 'classical Greek', koine Greek was the 'common Greek' that Alexander the Great introduced to the world.
Actually, this is wrong. Bible prophecy is 100% correct. Nothing matches it. They did see it. Christ was 'transfigured' in front of them, before He ascended to Heaven, a lot of people get this wrong, they don't understand because they miss this very important point (Matthew.17:1-7). "and most people don't read it fully", correct, this is proof of that.
Why? Why would you do that, if it was a real angel?

I'm sorry for the mistake I did mean Bethlehem not Nazareth and I have answered to you in another post about the "koine greek" language. And nope, Alexander introduced "common" Greek to the depths of Asia not the area that today is Middle East and Egypt. These people knew the language well before Alexander came (that's why many cities there had friendly bonds with the Greeks and avoided being destroyed).
So, if Bible is 100% correct and you believe it to be so, this must mean you believe literaly every single stroy in it, correct? I mean how the world was created and all the rules that you must follow?
As I said, I would do that because I have common sense.

That's ok, Jesus was also known as Jesus of Nazareth, because He grew up there. Israel had an 'Hellenistic' period when the Greeks were in control there. Greek was well known. Alexander spread common Greek to many places.
The right way to read the Bible is to take it literally at all times, except when it is figurative. Bible Prophecy is correct. Tell me, what 'story' in the Bible do you find you are unable to accept as true?
As for Genesis. I do believe it literally, but, take the '6 days', were they 6 24hr days, or 6 of God's days? St Peter said that to God, 1,000 yrs were as a blink of an eye, so what is 'God's time'? God made this world, and the universe, HOW He did that, is important, but not as important as just knowing He did it. God rested from it on the '7th day', to kind of look at His creation and enjoy it, be happy with it (that don't mean Creation just stopped, it kept going, God just 'rested').
Is it commonsense to book yourself into a mental institution when you are sane?
And if you were insane, you would not book yourself in because you would not know you were insane. Believe me, if you saw a real angel, you would KNOW, if it revealed itself to you fully. But, it is possible you have seen one, but did not know. I think it was Mark (?), who told us we should be hospitable to strangers, because for all we know, we could be entertaining an angel. Anyway, you sound pretty sane to me

Well, after recent studies of the "original" texts, the term virgin is starting to look more like "good girl".Also another thing is that virgin birth wasn't that uncommon of a story back then and it was used to glorify a person of great importance. Also, god impregnating a girl wasn't that uncommon. Zeus in ancient Greece used to do it all the time

TrickyCreature In reply to Sc1r0n [2012-01-27 10:02:54 +0000 UTC]
Hm, so parthenogenesis in these times didn't mean what it means today? Just having good old sex with a good girl?
I can't imagine Zeus impregnating women without ruining their hymen *ggg*
At least Pan and Priapos were quite famous for having a big penis and using it frequently, as far as I know.
But anyway, your mythology is very interesting and sometimes really entertaining, e.g. the story with Dionysos, how he was rescued from the burning Selene/Semele, born from Zeus's leg and then hidden from jealous Hera.
I think if you see this stories under the aspect of Depth psychology
they can tell us a lot about ourselves - even as an atheist.

Well, Greek mythology is great and one of the reasons I got closer to atheism as a child was because I loved ancient history and when I learned that the Christians absolutely destroyed many ancient temples, hunted down people that believe in the 12 gods and fed them o the lions (surprise surprise) and the biggest one of them all, they used the Parthenon as a church...then I started looking in depth on every religion or belief system there is and I found out that almost all of them were reasons for hate, racism and destruction and I'm not like that. I will never support anything that promotes these ideas. Anyway, Christianity right now is big here in Greece but we home that after we get absolutely ruined and taken over by foreign diplomats, things whill change. At least I'm ready for it

I always wondered why Mary's husband stuck with her because, really, her story does sound insane. However, the cover-up theroy just doesn't make sense to me.
Some of the most powerful people in the world can't keep secrets from the public (President Nixon, anyone?) Joseph was what, a carpenter? That cover-up would last 5-seconds.
I like the angle, but theroy doesn't add up.
Plus, if they're willing to say that there is an almighty deity who created the universe from nothing, creating a fetus from nothing is hardly a stretch

Back then being pregnant at 14 was nothing. Pedophilia and Homosexualism were nothing back then, which makes it very weird for a religion that started back then now to be officialy against the one but secretly loving the other (guess for who I'm talking about )
