Description For NPC Noah Alcott:[link]

So far so good! 2/2 NPC events complete : D

The Sigiliph is a chimera, basically an organism that contains two distinct sets of DNA. Here's a fantastic picture of a chimera cat [link] humans can be chimeras too without ever knowing. But it can be located through DNA tests, even then it isn't the easiest thing to spot. Usually a 'by chance' discovery.

Noah and his Pokemon are mine. Pokemon in general are, sadly, not. Ciao!

***************************************************************************

So calm and serene, a place where the world was hushed and truth loomed closer than ever. Grand towers that both watched with care and threatened to crash down upon those both foolish and wise. It was a place where anyone could come to gain solace.

In a single private corner Noah sat hunched over a scroll, muttering as he worked. The scratch of his quill would intermix with his mumblings, creating an almost rhythm of study for others to hear. His writing was orderly, but difficult to decipher; a mix of old languages of Sinnoh and his own short hand. Be it by the almost maniacal way at which he studied or the writing itself he constantly sought to keep others out. His work was his own.

Guarding over the display a pure white Swablu calmly perched atop a bookshelf; appearing to doze, but constantly aware of the world around her master. It was she who heard it first, a faint, but constant, whoosh of wings pushing their owner through the air. Lifting her head Sariel cooed, eyes going to the distant front of the library. Miniature antannae perked and the fog about her body began to grow in density at the sound of a cry followed by a crash. A couple more sounds of distress mixed in, slowly getting louder as the panic grew. And the beating...the constant beating that mixed with the studying man's thoughtful mutterings.

Letting out a louder cry the musical sound of a Swablu was not all around alarming and the creature had enough sense not to scream out in the library. The sound kept growing. Pink eyes glittered with thought and without a moment to waste she hopped down from her perch, talons latching on to the mixed locks of the researcher and beak adding its own rhymic tapping to the start of the cacophony.

Tip of his quill breaking in his surprise Noah's thoughts only stopped to let out the sort of surprised call that his Pokémon had refrained from using, "S-Sariel?!" one hand held on to his glasses to keep them in place while the other attempted to free the creature and rid himself of the incessant warning, "What has gotten into you?! I said I was sorry about the paralysis!" with an annoyed chirp the Swablu hopped free of the man's hair. Growing in size the petite avian evolved, the fog from its wings now rolling down to the ground.

Noah rose to his feet quickly enough to knock his chair down, turning to glare up at the albino whose attention was on a faint shape as it clumsily flew over the book shelves, "SARIEL! Disengage this instant and get down here! I don't know what's gotten into you but-" two toned eyes widened at a crackling call that reverberated in his mind. A mixed of confused pitches that disturbed his thoughts and made him feel a little sick. Despite knowing that a psychic shock could not be blocked in such a way, he clapped his hands over his ears and turned; finally clueing in to the trouble his Pokémon had been alerting him to.

Somewhere near the front of the library a bookcase tumbled down, a trio of Abra searching about the contents of the spilled paper; one of which fell asleep within the mess. A flock of Woobat swooped in through the window, chattering with glee at the distruction they couldn't seen. Even a Bronzor had found its way in, slowly hovering between the shelves and bouncing in to each side, strong disposition terrorizing the nerves of the workers that attempted to direct it away. The dark figure flying near the rafters gained shape, a myriad of colors making up for the dark splotch the creature once was. Another startled cry assaulted Noah's mind, growing in strength as a white foot caught on the top of a shelf and it tumbled to a stop on top of it.

Disoriented by both the psychic forces that brought him there and his own clumsiness the Sigilyph scrambled to its feet with another distressed mental call. Three eyes, one of which was milky with age, locked on to the white figure across from him. Feathers puffing as he shivered the large avian stretched his wings out, earning a gasp from the watching human.

The plumage was like nothing Noah had ever seen before. One side, while colorful, was normal, mundane; not worth his time. But the other! Somehow the rare oranges and greens had taken hold of half of the Sigilyph's form lending it the kind of coloration that could attract nothing but wonder from the man.

"Absolutely-" the creature's beak opened wide and with a much more pleasing vocalization a solid beam of crackling energy and ice was fired at the star struck scholar.

Screaming in anger at the assault Sariel began to beat her wings, kicking up dust and spreading Noah's materials across the library as a crystaline barrier was formed. The attack hit hit the Protect, scattering into harmless portions that melted before damage came to anyone or anything. As her defense faded the Altaria glared down at Noah, letting out an annoyed shriek to force him to pay attention. It did little good, startled by the impromptu battle the man was at a loss, but his Pokémon's cry served more than one purpose.

Waking, the black splotch of a Joltik turned towards the exit of the researcher's sleeve. Shivering with excitement red eyes flashed and he scuttled forward, already expanding in size the creature shifted; from insect to serpent until Noah got the hint and brought his arm up.

The rare Sigilyph lashed out again and once more Sariel brought up a shield to protect their Master. The pitch black Seviper cared little for the display. Already his eyes had latched on to a potential fight and he rushed through the glittering display; much to the chagrin of the one causing it. Scales becoming slick with frost he propelled himself at the avian with little regard for himself; or the large shelf that fell in his wake. Fangs wide in a poisonous attack he bit down at the joint between the Sigilyph's body and rarely colored wing.

Recovering from the shock of seeing so many priceless books fall Noah turned, feeling his heart stop at the sight of Azrael coiling about the specimen and dragging it to the ground, "AZRAEL, NO!" Hopping over the table in a feat of athleticism he didn't know he had in him (and would likely be paying for later) the researcher hurried to the battle. The melanistic creature either didn't hear, or didn't care to hear, his owner; fangs lighting up again in preparation to inject more poison into the struggling Sigilyph.

Cursing under his breath Noah began to search his robes, certain that he had, somewhere, anywhere... eyes brightening much the way the dark Pokémon's had at the possibility of a battle his fingers latched on to an old Apricorn within his robes. Not daring to risk missing he closed the distance between himself and the fight, avoiding the scythe like tail of the Seviper to slam the orb down on the bland feathers of the avian's normal wing.

I'll go ever the picture first, i really like it!
I like the fight scene and how you've drawn the attacks. I'm not sure which one are those, they look like Reflect or something and Ice beam^^.
But my favourite part is the Sigliph for sure. I just love your redesign of it and the idea to make it half shiny is pretty inventive and results with great visual effect especially for colourful Pokemon like Sigliph.

Ok, now for what picked my interest, and please don't think i'm being too nitpicky, I'm just open for discussion and would like to clarify some things.

I needed a minute or so to understand your explanation for the Sigliph. You wrote that chimera is 'an organism that contains two distinct sets of DNA', but doesn't that definition describe all dilploid organisms?
And doubling that set (to tetraploid), or individual chromosome is mostly lethal or results in severe genetic disease. I imagine that is not what you meant.
For what I suspect, is that chimera has different sets of certain parts of DNA in different body parts, cause that's how it looks like for me for kitten on the pic, eye colour vise.
As for its fur, I know it's normal spotting for a female cat (she looks female to me). Gene for red spotting is sex-linked, so i suspect that that she has red allele on one X and black allele on another:3

I hope I don't annoy you with this comment, for what I've seen in Noah's app and here, you have some interest in genetic, so i though I share my opinion with you^^.
And i hope my English didn't get to derpy here._.

I'm glad that you like it ^-^ I finally added in the written portion if you're interested in it. Protect is what Sariel is using and Poison Fang for Azrael : ) I've also updated the NPC application so a few fun facts about the Sigilyph (Grandpa Wenteyao) are there.

And I don't think you're nit picky at all! You're just thinking of chromosomes instead of DNA. For a creature like the Sigilyph they would have two different sets of normal chromosomes; 23 pairs in each cell, but cells that can have different configurations of these pairs. And there are only two configurations available, which is why his color and the color of Venus (the cat) is split. Chimera's often (relative to the situation of chimeras) are the result of the cells for nonidentical twins fusing together before continuing to grow. Kind of like puzzle piecing together one person from two; it's the best way I can think to describe it X3 usually the visual differences aren't easy to spot, extra finger perhaps, maybe a strange patch of skin, but they can become more dramatic in animals. Though I'm sure there have been dramatic cases in humans, I just doubt they've been recorded well over the years depending on when or where they occurred.

And you're right about the cats! That's only in regards to a calico configuration though; like you said, on the X gene. That's why they're almost always female and when they are male (besides being damn expensive!) they're usually infertile because of a spare X chromosome hanging around. The cat's dramatic color split isn't created this way though, the coloration for each side is created by different DNA. I'm not sure if Venus would qualify as a calico, I know it has tortoiseshell patterns along its body, but not much white...not sure if someone with too much time on their hands developed an official ratio for calicos or not XD

I hope that helped ^-^ and your English was perfectly fine, no worries. Were you worried just about the explanation or is it your second language?

Wah, i didn't get it right, but oh well T__T

Oh yeah, i was thinking about chromosomes. I've never heard about chimeras before so I guessed that this kind of fenotype made my caused by other sort of mutation accursed in early embryogenesis. maybe something that disabled dominant gene in heterozygous and therefore made recessive one visible, but blah, the name 'chimera' should be some indication that it's something different, i'm so clueless sometimes X3

This is actually very interesting and you explained it very well, thank you so much for taking your time answering me!

Thanks! Yes, English is my second language and I'm constantly worried about its state cause i don't use it on daily basis outside of Internet.
And specialistic language is even harder ;w;
