Description
Ekka is a one of a kind griffin thinger, sort of a random personal side project. She's made from polymer clay over wire and foil, and painted in acrylics. I had originally intended for her to be a lot creepier; she ended up super cute! (Besides the weird mangled front feet...)Ekka is about 7 inches tall and balances on her two feet. She has lots of feathery detail and layers of colour. She was a lot of fun to make, especially since I needed the practice sculpting feathers. In the next few months I'm hoping to do a more traditional looking griffin.
Ekka is for sale on etsy! [link]

I love all of your sculptures! so beautiful!!
What type of clay do you use to mold them? Starting to do sculpting but have not been able to find a good clay yet, one that doesnt dry while im working with it and can be played around with very easily :/

What about a hippogriph? That would be awesome too. She is cute though.

okay i have been wondering this for a while. how do you construct the wire armature? can you put up a tutorial for me to see how you do it? and where can you get the wire mesh at?

I have a unicorn tutorial in my gallery that sort of goes over the process, but it's old. *SovaeArt also has several, none specifically on armature but many include it. I haven't had time to make tutorials in a long time but am hoping to have an armature one in the future. My best advice is to use thick (16 or 14 gauge) galvanized steel wire, and to use a small, think type of wire to wrap around everything else. I often reinforce my armatures with apoxie sculpt before I add the clay, to make sure things don't move around. I buy all my wire and stuff from a hardware store (Rona, Lowe's, Home Depot, Canadian Tire, etc). The foil I wrap around at the end, I don't use actual wire mesh unless it's a super large sculpture. I hope that helps, I'll try to see about doing a tutorial but it'll take me a few months Let me know if you have other questions, I'll do my best!
