Description
UPDATE (1/4/2017) BECAUSE PEOPLE KEEP ASKING THE SAME THING A LOTYOU HAVE TO RUN EITHER THE .JAR OR .BAT FILES ON WINDOWS 8/10 WHEN LAUNCHING SHIMEJI. DON'T TRY TO RUN THE .EXE FILE.
IF THEY WON'T OPEN, DOWNLOAD THIS: drive.google.com/open?id=0B0vF… BECAUSE YOUR PROBLEM IS MOST LIKELY HAVING THE WRONG VERSION OF JAVA.
UNZIP THIS FOLDER AND PUT THE JRE6 FOLDER IN LOCAL DISK (C) > PROGRAM FILES X86 > JAVA. MAKE SURE THAT WHEN OPENING THE JRE6 FOLDER YOU SEE "BIN", AND NOT ANOTHER "JRE6". IF YOU SEE THE LATTER, MOVE THE FOLDER INSIDE TO THE JAVA FOLDER INSTEAD BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT YOU HAVE THE RIGHT PATH OR IT WON'T LAUNCH.
UPDATE (14/12/2015)
I TOOK ALL OF THE SHIT OUT OF THE TUTORIAL, UPDATED THE WRITING AND MADE IT MORE RELEVANT. GOD DAMN I WAS CRINGY A YEAR AGO. I'M SORRY FOR THE OLD TUTORIAL.
SHIMEJI ENGLISH ENHANCED, THE VERSION USED IN THE TUTORIAL, AND THE VERSION I RECOMMEND, CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM HERE: code.google.com/p/shimeji-ee/d…
A video version of the tutorial, complete with over-dubbing and my wonderful stuttering, will be made soon. Hopefully. If I remember.
Again, drop me a comment if you're having issues with it!

Thanks for the tutorial but I have a problem; everytime i click the Shimeji-ee command thing, it just tells me this:
''C:\Users\Ravioli\Pictures\Shimejis\Shiko>"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\java" -classpath Shimeji-ee.jar -Xmx1000m com.group_finity.mascot.Main -Djava.util.logging.config.file=./conf/logging.properties
The system could not find the specified route.''
Help?? The Shimeji itself worked fine when i downloaded it, but it doesn't now...
Also, the other Shimeji-ee (with the icon) didn't work aswell. The Shimejis just won't show up

Do you have the version of Java I linked in the description? It mentions it in that error, but it could be something else too. Some versions of Windows, 10 especially, go compatible and incompatible with old Java programs at random

It took me about 15 minutes to finally figure out what was wrong (The Java Folder wasn't in the Program files (X86) and i didn't install the version of Java you linked). Thank you so much!

Was the shimeji you edited it from positioned like, up a bit? If that makes sense? Most will touch the bottom of the canvas but it might have been edited so it doesn't have to. You may need to go into the behaviour and actions files and edit them, I have a tutorial on custom moves that, while not totally relevant, breaks down how to edit those so you can re-position your shimeji SHIMEJI TUTORIAL - How to Make Custom Moves

Sorry for the extremely late response
Is the shimeji English-Enhanced? This sounds like you have a shimeji in the Japanese format. I don't recommend using this because the menu system is lacklustre, but you can if you want, you could just edit the images in that folder and change the mother folder's name. If you want to work with a much better shimeji format, find an EE shimeji and copy the img folder with Asriel in it to its own img folder and rename it to whoever you're turning it into.

Hey! I´m using this tutorial and it´s helping me a lot for now! The only thing is, that in the img. folder I can´t find the folder with the shimeji´s old name. It might be because I´m using a Pearl´s shimeji (which has 4 different versions. Should I erase 3 of the 4 versions? Should I left them?

Ah, yes. I think you want to delete the folders you're not using. Then rename the folder you kept as the new character.

Hi! I did as you said, and everything works perfectly until an error jumps in everytime I try to open it and select the new shimeji, it says that it cannot be executed because the file is being processed by another processor, and another windows opens to say that it failed to load the conf files, and that I have so see log for more details, do you know how can I fix it?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
scenikeight In reply to FraslkoPala [2018-07-10 10:06:41 +0000 UTC]
It may be because you have a program open with the images or the conf files; try running it as administrator after closing everything else. It also might be the version of the program you're opening. I have attached to the description of this post the stuff you need to get shimeji running on windows 10 if that might help?
I also suggest you open the ShimejiLog files, one of them would have been created or updated when that error happened. It will tell you inside what the issue is but if you can't understand it then copy and paste it in here.

So i've got a issue, when tested the shimeji, white pixes are at the outline of the character, is there anyway to fix it?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
scenikeight In reply to Wulvenr [2018-05-19 08:42:39 +0000 UTC]
Generally this can't be 100% fixed (it's a problem with the way Shimeji deals with anti-aliasing) but you can kind of get rid of them in your editor. If you open the image and stand above your screen you should be able to see where the slightly-off-white pixels are and you can remove some of them. I've done it in my shimejis for particularly nasty stuff but usually I just leave it.

Oh - I didn't check my messages yet
I don't think the lineart width helps at all honestly, it's just the anti-aliasing around the lines i think

i have a problem with mine i which the shimeji works fine! But the shimeji is off when it comes to the taskbar and edges (for example, the shimeji would be off by one inch from the edge, so it looks like it's floating). Is there anyways to fix it?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
scenikeight In reply to SALEZMANRADIOZ [2018-05-11 09:59:27 +0000 UTC]
It probably has to do with the drawings in the shimeji not being quite lined up right, but it could also be the size of your taskbar? I'm not really sure.

I figured it out. Thanks for the help though! It was because I had the walking files in a 100% different pose than the standing.

I believe I covered this in my other shimeji tutorial, but you should be able to do this as follows:
Go into the shimeji's "conf" folder. Right-click on both "actions" and "behaviours" and open them with Notepad. (You might want to copy them to somewhere else in case you make a mistake and want to try again.)
Go into "actions" first. From the top bar of Notepad, click on "Edit" and then "Find". Look for the action you want (eg. SitAndSpinHead) and rename it to whatever you like. Make sure that there's no more instances of this action, and if there is then change the names again.
Go into "behaviours" and do the same thing. (Keep in mind that sometimes Notepad won't like where you are in the document if you're trying to search for something, so use the "up" and "down" checkboxes on the bottom if you can't find what you need.)
Save both files and test it, if it doesn't work, make sure that you've replaced every single instance of the name you want. You can always try again by replacing the edited files with the ones you copied before and make sure you're following what I said.
I hope that helps!!
