"Re-Imagining" of the M340 Autocannon from the Halo game series.It's listed as being a 40mm system mounted on the chin system of the Pelicans in the game, which later gets upgraded to a different, 70mm system.
I, for the hell of it, designed 36mm rounds (APEI, HEI and APFSDS) rounds that the gun system could deploy at 4,000+ ft/s out to around 5,000 meters (effective range, not max). The APEI and HEI rounds can be "smart" programmed for air burst, impact or delayed detonations. The "smart" muzzle of the gun gives the rounds their final calibration and fusing option as they leave the barrel.
The gun can fire at a maximum of 500 rounds/min while allowing for the option of single or 5 round bursts depending on target, range and desired effect. The vehicle mount turret system includes an FCS system with optics and two mounts for spare drum magazines. The gun itself will feed from two drum magazines, allowing for round selection based on targets. The other option is to mix-load the rounds into both drums and the gun can cycle through all rounds. The drums themselves are loaded up to 42 rounds, allowing for 84 ready rounds.
So far I've designed this as a vehicle mounted system for the Warthog while there could be additional variants for other vehicles, static defensive positions and aircraft. The Pelican chin-mounted variant will require some re-working, especially since a chin mounted gun on an aircraft that goes through re-entry of atmospheres can't be sitting out in the open.
