There was a pressing need for a tut like this. So I stepped up... drop me a link if any good comes of this.
Oh, and thanks for the many other tutorials that taught me enough to develop my own techniques..
Psamtik's Note:
Even though this doesn't entirely represent a comet, its the only tutorial i've seen available and i'm sure many of you more experienced can make very good use of this. Enjoy

Sweet, I've tried different methods for comets, but I've never been overly happy with them.
I really like the look of this, can't wait to play around. I bet you could make a good nebula using the same techniques.
Kudos, dude.

Thanks for stepping up to the plate to tutor when you saw a need. This is a very good start - a lot of people will benefit.
However, if a person doesn't *really* like it - are you sure you really mean to say "screw you" ??? Kinda' harsh, don't you think?

Not really, I believe that Psamtik submitted the version in my gallery, not the one I emailed him. I made a few changes, one being the pointless attitude.
Yeah, it was late, and I was acting a little harsh. But thank you, I hope it helps some beginners like me.

LOL... well - I really like your comet tutorial. : )
I did a piece a while ago that somewhat resembles "mini" comets somewhat like you're tutoring:
[link]
You might be interested, if you're not already familiar with it, a software program called "Particle Illusion."
I'm working on a follow up to that other piece that puts the viewer right in the tail of the comet. A company called WonderTouch makes the software. It does so much more than bare-Photoshop might.
I'm glad someone else likes a good comet too. : )
Have a galactically groovy day!

I use particle illusion, and the water jet filter looked just like a comet to me, so tried to recreate it with photoshop.
Thank you!! I'll check it out.
