Description
Here is a group picture of all of the non-DLC playable characters in Hyrule Warriors, which was just released this past week! With cuccos, because chickens make everything better. Does anyone remember that commercial for Cocoa Puffs, where they say, "We're cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs!" but here we're "cucco" for Hyrule Warriors! Yeah! Anyone? Anyone? XDOriginally I was going to practice hashmark shading with this (as some of you know it is something I struggle with but hope to do well one day), so I just went for some very simple lineart and basic colors so I could get to the hashmarking. Then after doing the hashmarks, I realized it looked terrible and deleted it and went to doing regular shading. So here is a simple little group picture as a result.
Does anyone else have this game right now? If so, who is your favorite character to play as?
Also thanks to marmiz for looking this over before I posted it!

Aw thank you so much! This is one of my more simple pieces, but I did try to get some of the details on each character so that they could still be differentiated from each other! Minus a few characters, Hyrule Warriors did well with their character armor design and I really enjoyed them.
And chickens make everything better!

It's pretty cool how you can simplify the characters and make them detailed at the same time. Plus, I though the character armor turned out great! Have you done other pieces like this? It looks like you're already experienced in drawing in theis style, and I've notifed you draw in other styles as well!
You can say that again!

Thank you kindly! I haven't done other pieces in exactly this style (or if it is similar, probably a different technique was used), but I do like mixing and matching things I learn from each style. I do have some pictures that are group pictures, some chibi, some not. It's not for everyone, but I think experimenting all the time keeps things fresh and helps me improve and learn a lot. It gives me a greater appreciation for art, since a lot of things look easier as the final result than when you're actually drawing and trying to replicate that look! XD I'm also trying to find what style works best for me, as I'm still looking for something that looks nice but doesn't take too long to complete.

I think it's great that you're experimenting with different styles and designs, you could probably get a lot of practice that way. Do you look at tutorials or are you self-taught (or both)? In my case, I think drawing realistically would be really hard but I could get used to drawing in a simplified style if I practice. Your end results for you art look great, so that technique must really work well for you! I'm sure you'll find a style that suits you best

ScythicKitty In reply to Violet-Petunia [2014-10-29 08:03:32 +0000 UTC]
Experimenting with different styles does help with practice, but you only get as much practice as the number of pieces you do. It certainly helps keep things fresh though! I've been fortunate that I haven't run into an art block yet, and I think a huge part of that is because I'm interested in trying out all these styles. I do understand that not everyone is into that though, and sometimes it is better to perfect a style you're used to.
Occasionally I've looked at tutorials, but the main problem I have is that people use brushes or settings that I don't have, or they have an approach that I don't use (for example, some artists draw people with circles, other build around a stick figure, etc) and if their base approach is completely different from what I am used to, then the tutorial isn't always helpful. Mostly I'm just self-taught and just experimenting with whatever looks good! (or will hopefully look good, it doesn't always turn out that way XD) There's inspiration all over the place, from the the design of burger wrappers to actual art galleries, so sometimes I'll look to those and pick out what parts I like and try to put it together and see how that goes. I took oil painting lessons when I was 4 for a few months with my sister, but I don't know if that really counts... it sure was fun though!
For some people, drawing and coloring realistically is easier than something more abstract or cartoony, even though the latter usually has fewer details. In fact, I've met some people who have a harder time simplifying things and still keeping it nice looking and struggle immensely with anything that's not realistic or stick figures. I think it just depends on what you're comfortable with. With some practice, I'm sure you'll be able to do it! Is that the style you're most interested in?

I think there's quite a number of stages in Adventure Mode with the cuccos as your allies, since I've run into several already! It's funny seeing them there. And definitely, it's a very enjoyable game, especially the co-op, despite the drop in graphics. A shame the Legend Mode is rather short and there's some plot holes, but the cutscenes were nice to watch. Otherwise it is a blast! Who is your favorite character to play as?

I like them all.
I think I like using Sheik the most. Due to her water note barrier.
Then Impa with her giant sword for now. Due to good group control.
I still need to complete a lot of stuff get all the characters and such since my old wii u got fucked up so I needed a new one.

Nice! I think Sheik is also my overall favorite in general. For crowd control, I like Fi (spin spin spin!) and for bosses I like Ghirahim. Impa is great too as you said, though for me somehow watching her is not particularly visually pleasing haha! (I like how the naginata looks for the attacks, but use-wise it's probably not a weapon I particularly care for).
Oh boo, that is too bad! What happened to your Wii U? I hope your new Wii U will work just fine!

Yeah.
Link is okay once he has the shield bash. Otherwise his attacks are too linear.
Fi is fun just spin dodge cancel spin...
The Naginata looks great but I'm having problems using it as well as her giant blade.
My new one is fine.
Who know if I can get my old one fix I'll sell it lol.

I think overall his attacks for his sword(s) aren't terribly exciting compared to everyone else's, even though he's well balanced and quite strong. It also doesn't help that we always play as Link in the other games, so it's a nice change to get to play and look at someone else! Haha yeah, spin dodge spin cancel spin spin spin some more! And good to know at the very least you can still sell your old Wii U. Better than nothing!

I'm cocoa for Hyrule Warriors as well! Wait... What? Something seems off on that... Cocoa for Hyrlule Peaceors! I think that's right. Amidst all the fighting, I shall hug and bring happiness across the land! I think that's how it goes.
So hooray for being able to post this! What did the hashmarks look like? Was it the actual hashmarking that seemed off or the shadows that were made using them? I've seen some of the hasmarks you make and the hashmarks themselves look pretty good. Do you still have them saved?
I think I asked you earlier if you knew who all the playable characters were... And I totally forgot that this piece had them all... Sooooo.... Ummm... Spoiler alert? I don't think that's how it works is it? Anywho, my current new favorite character to play as is Zelda. Poke poke poke pew pew pew. I like that. Followed closely by Midna because dem throws! How far have you gotten in the game?

ScythicKitty In reply to marmiz [2014-10-03 02:47:02 +0000 UTC]
No no, you still have it wrong! It's Cocoa for Lowrule PeaxX0rz! That's how it is! It's all part of the Lardening of 200 A.D., don't forget! And indeed in this game you bring hug and happiness to across the land! Surely you saw all the rainbows and dancing butterflies all around? Plus there are never any deaths, only KOs! KOs means nappy time, and everyone loves nappy time, except for YOU! YOU is too busy melting the North Pole with baby bears and time displaced teachers with triple insurance. What are we going to do about YOU?
The hashmarks just looked very dirty and rough from before alas. At first I thought, maybe they just didn't work with the colors or style, but after the whole llama trading thing, I've seen a lot of artists with the pastelly-round-cute-style with hashmark shading that looked amazing. I'll keep working at it though! I don't have them saved any more though. They looked so disgusting, like sexy varicose veins and hairy bear legs were puked all over it that the layer had to be deleted. I'll have none of that there! I will give it a try again for my annual Halloween piece. I haven't started on it yet but I know that I want to try that angular 1990's cape hero comic style, which should hopefully work nicely with the hashmarks. When we meet you must show me your glorious hashmarking skills of justice again good sir!
Tis no spoiler alert good chap. Lard doesn't spoil after it's been pickled. Anyways, my current all around favorite character to use is probably Sheik, followed by Fi and Ghirahim. Sheik just has a lovely design and breakdances across the floor and I like the way she runs! (Favorite running animation is Ruto's though). I also really like the baton weapon for Zelda and the gauntlets for Link (but I don't like playing as Link because he always sounds so constipated with a sore throat and visually). I would have really liked Zant if it weren't for the fact that his special animations take forever to complete and don't actually hit a lot of people in comparison! I must mash more buttons! We finished the Legend mode, which was disappointingly short. We're working through Adventure a little bit at a time, though my sister doesn't like that one as much. She just want to see the cutscenes and plot-hole-filled story and save Hyrule. She wants to support Nintendo/Tecmo Koei and buy the DLC though! Which part of the game are you at? Which weapon for Zelda do you use? Who does your brother like using?

No no. You have it wrong. It's Cuccos for Chickenrule Mmmzorz. The chickening will be great because they think outside of the boks... Soooooo.... Ummmm... Yeah... Bok to the subject at hand (I can't help myself!!). Cuccos not only support nappy time and KO powah, but they will also make sure there is a place for YOU to utot melt all the glaciers YOU wants. That way we are all happy. Especially YOU.
Ah, too bad they are not saved. Even if they looked yucky sometimes it's nice to see where it all began. Like... I know I also have a hard time with it, but that's why I try not to erase anything in my sketchbook. Some things are disgusting, but I look back and go, "You can't break me paper!!" Or something like that. The neighbors don't like me. And I can help assist in any way I can as well! When shall you be starting this capes drawing?
Yeah, I know it wasn't a spoiler. I saw this picture. So... umm... spoiler alert you knew? I don't know how these spoiler alerts work. (Spoiler alert! Milk in da fridge!). I'm not terribly far in the game in a sense. I'm at the part in Legend Mode where the 3 paths converge again (I think that's where I am). I don't have everyone unlocked though. Nor the weapons. I think I'm missing a lot. I'm guessing that means a lot are in story mode that I haven't unlocked. I really like Zelda, but for some reason her laugh bothers me. Not like it sounds horrible, but that it doesn't sound like I feel she should laugh. Like, it's not very princessy and very just generic anime girl if I remember correctly. I actually haven't used Sheik yet... or a lot of people actually. I really like Fi, but find myself ballerina-ing my way passed all the enemies, looking lovely in a sea of nothingness. I just got the baton weapon for Zelda though. I think she looks really weird holding them when she's not attacking and it makes me laugh. She's all, "Come at me bro!" So weird for a princess! Or I suppose it's more, "Come hug me yo!" I think that makes more sense. I'll start yelling that more often. For me the cutscenes are fine, but as you know (despite all my problems with the game) for some reason I just love these games and play through adventure mode because I love collecting things. And I want to play through the rest of Legend Mode with my brother (which I'm assuming is almost done). He's actually better at the game than I am too. Also, I just found out you can block. Not that I use it anyway, but wow! There's a button for that! My brother hasn't played much, just last weekend he was here. He was mainly using Link and Sheik because those were the people we had unlocked (I think by the time he left we only had Link, Sheik, Impa, Darunia... That might have been it. Oh, Fi maybe?). I don't remember if we had Fi, but he didn't care for Darunia much.
I initially didn't want the DLC because I thought they were just costume packs... Now... Ugh... I might just have to do it because... More Dynasty Warriors. Also, I just found out what Network Mode does (I thought it was the same thing as Miiverse!!). So, sometimes I see these little Links on my map and think... "Dos't thou requirest my assistance?" Then I have a trial to see if they are guilty to be helped. Or something like that... I thought I saw something that if someone helps your Link you get something? If that's so, then nobody wants to help me. Buhuhuhh. And it says it's supposed to be much harder on those quests, but I actually found them to be much easier... I don't know why so far. Does the DLC add more story? I guess I could google it, but... Nay?

We all know that YOU is too good for that. YOU is on that rebellious teenage emu sheer pants streak! Melting glaciers no longer pleases YOU's insatiable desire for tears of the world! Soon, the time displaced teachers will summon all the cuccos of the land, rendering good sister H5N1 helpless as YOU strips her of her powers. How is your bear army coming along? Do they stand a chance against the boks of doom? Don't open the boks!
The capes drawing ended up going a completely different direction! At first it was going to be all bold and cool and contrasty looking, then I wanted to do the weird pop colors thing with shading in bright colors (plus hashmarks), then I realized it looked cooler if it was all runny and watercolory looking (plus hashmarks), and well, now you know the direction it has gone. Hashmarks are out once again, replaced with strange colored shading and solid black shading in a few areas. I got a little further in it yesterday. I think all that's left is the background and editing...oh woe are the proportions! But as far as I know, it is on track to be posted on Tooseyday Honolulu time.
I was reading one of those hurt-heal threads on Hyrule Warriors the other day, and it was about favorite attack scheme. Last time I checked, both of Impa's weapons were still up, as was Sheik, Linku's Master Sword, and Zelda's rapier, but for sure Fi was on the "dead" list really early on! All three of Lana's weapons were also down fairly early too. I guess people really don't like her. I agree, Zelda's pose with the wind waker is really strange. I mean, it looks ok if it was in the cel-shaded style, because I know that's how they hold it there, but when she's in this semi-realistic-anime look, it just looks ridiculous, especially with her regal princess armor! And then her laugh! Gah! But it is a fun weapon, though I find it isn't as effective as the pointy stick o' doom. Do you know if there's a way to view cutscenes? We haven't found that option anywhere, and we'd like to see them again on the TV instead of having to Youtube them. Do you have a new favorite character now? How about your brother?
Don't forget to take the post-play survey on Club Nintendo to get the points! Also I still can't seem to find information on getting AlsoBovine yet... have you heard anything? Does it require the Club Nintendo pins, or is it just linking a 3DS to the Wii U, or is it tied to games on the NNID?
So the other day I turned on Hyrule Warriors, and I actually saw yours with a Level 5 Linku! Which was weird, because just the week before, I think it was a Level 36 Linku! I'm going to guess that what Hyrule Warriors does is that it just takes the level of the last character you were using and sends it out, rather than using the average. And I'm guessing it's not locked to Linku, since yours went from 36 down to 5. Some of the quests I found have been harder (only if they are 15+ levels higher), others easier. The ones that are around my level I think are easier than the regular Adventure Mode ones. I think it helps a lot that you don't have to aim for A rank and you can still get the nice material or weapon. The DLC does add more story. I think it adds 5 chapters to the beginning where you follow Cia's story and how she recruits Wizzro and Volga. I read that Volga is the star of these five chapters and while no new maps were added, it is nice to see them in action. We haven't started on those yet though. We're still stuck on the regular Adventure Map since we're not finding a lot of time to really play. Even with two players, some of these Adventure Map things are tough (or maybe we're underleveled? I know a lot of people are already 60-99, and we're still around 30-40). It'd be impossible for a solo person unless they're extremely hardcore and timed everything perfectly!

Well the bear army is coming along. I'll admit it's not quite what I had initially hoped, but I think it may still work. So far all they do is hug... Sooo... Kill 'em with kindness?
Ah, so the capes drawing ended up being what I've seen so far eh? Well, I guess soon it shall be unleashed!! Un... buttoned? Unfastened? I guess a cape would be more unfastened right? Unless it was a clip on cape... Anywho, I look forward to the final product! Or would I look backward? At my cape? Because a cape in front of me would just be... I think I'd get thrown in jail right?
I really wanna like Fi. She's super fun to watch and can take out hordes easily!! I just have no talent in controller her dancing when I just wanna fight one person. "Don't dance over there Fi!! Over here!! Wait!! They're leaving! I'll catch them! Where are you going?!?" Maybe it's because I do the dances along with her in real time... I'll have to look into that... I do feel like Zelda's poke poke poke-athon is a bit cheap. It just kinda demolishes bad guys. So does her hug-me-baton, but not quite as bad. I didn't hate Lana. I don't use her much either, but I didn't hate her. I don't think I really have a new favorite character though since I haven't played much. I may not have played at all since the last time we discussed this actually... Nope, I lied. I played once like a week ago maybe. My brother hasn't played in maybe 3 weeks?
And what's this post-play survey I should be taking? I don't think I've registered any games in awhile. For AlsoBovine, I haven't looked up anymore information about it, but I really hope there is a way for people to get it by not owning both systems. I mean, there would be a TON of people that would miss out on that if that were the case. Plus, it would be a great opportunity for Nintendo so sell some DLC as well.
Ah, I think that my Linku was level 5 because I finally played as Ghirahim last week or whenever it was that I played. So... Experiment success!! Because I was totally trying one? Either way now we know what the levels are based off of because I was under the same impression as you (if that's the impression you initially had) of it being just tied to Link or the highest character. Yeah, I saw that it scales quite a bit with the level of the Linku. I helped a level 4 friend and I basically breathed on them and they died. Like... breathed on my TV... Because that's how I play... Also, my breath is lovely and that's not why they died it was totally because they were weak don't try and question my breath smells... I saw that there were 5 more prequel quests added with the DLC (or read about it more since I didn't buy it). As you know, my characters are also roughly the same level as yours (I think my highest leveled character is 38?), and especially solo some levels are just not fun (when aiming to get A rank). It really does make me hesitant to play the game most nights because I know that I can't really progress the way I want. If I could, if there were online multiplayer, or if I had someone that could co-op with me regularly, I would have already bought the DLC. But as it stands I just can't justify getting another map I probably won't be able to get through because I'm playing solo. Le cry. But the DLC does look like an amazing value for the price. There is quite a bit of content behind it, but... Buhuhuhu, I can't beat it by myself!! Plus, Bayonetta 1+1 (which equals 2 in most cases and I now own that game and Bayonetta 1+1-1 which is 1 which came with the game. I feel like there is a simpler way to describe these games...) and then Smuush soon which has like ALL the contents... Aiya! Sorry LowServe Peaceors! You may be neglected! I did beat it though... Legend mode at least. Adventure Mode will probably forever be neglected.

A regular cape in front of you would not land you in jail. It is if this is a blacku leatha cape in front of you that would land you in jail. It is far too fabulous for this world, causing prepubescent men and women alike to faint within twenty meters of it. The forward blacku leatha cape is too bad boiz and filled with the hawts! It makes for the low self esteems to those who gaze upon it and thus was banned as a weapon of mass appeal! Even baby bears wearing the forward blacku leatha cape are deadly! Perhaps we should get some forward blacku leatha capes to fight against YOU?
If you registered Hyrule Warriors for Ganondorfu's costumes, then that means you have a post-play survey to fill out for sweet, luscious coins! I filled mine out a few weeks ago, and now I'm a wee bit closer to Platinum! Not much but well, it works. They also have these snazzy Smuush posters, which are pretty much the only prize that is good. The US Club Nintendo prizes are pretty bad, especially compared to Japan, and even Europe. The prizes for Platinum/Gold haven't been all that enticing either the past two years... plus all that trouble with the Smuush demo, it almost makes Platinum not worth it, except for the feeble hope that maybe, just maybe the prizes will be smexy once more.
Yeah, if you have a second player who enjoys Zelda and mashing buttons, the DLC is fantastic. It doesn't seem like much but it actually is and breathes a lot of life into it. Also apparently Hyrule Warriors exceeded Nintendo's expectations in the US in terms of sales! They didn't release any specific numbers, but that's great! Plus the weak yen and continual success of MK8 seems to be putting Nintendo back on track (not that they should rely on the yen value... but it's good to finally see some more consistent positive news for Nintendo). And totally breathing on the TV causes deaths on screen! They cannot handle the blacku leatha breath of sparkling shimmer miasma! And right now I'm pretty much stuck on Lowserve Peaceors. I can't play Legend mode because I have to wait for my sister for that, and I can't go anywhere in Adventure because that needs two players. It doesn't help that my sister has lost quite a bit of interest in the game too, since even with 2 players it can be hard (especially with those one-hit-takes-7-hearts-attacks) and she gets frustrated that it's no longer instantaneous gratification and advancing and the challenge seems like come from "cheap" difficulty level, where just a tiny slip (especially with the wiimote, where swinging it doesn't always register and the wrong combo comes out. We were sad that the CCP wasn't compatible) lands you in B rank. I'm glad that Smuush has so many controller options! How goes Bayonetta now? Have you tried the multiplayer mode? What is your favorite costume?

Ah, I had assumed that the cape we were talking about was the forward blacku leatha cape because... while other capes exist, why would you ever want to wear them? They are quite possibly the most powerful clothes-based weaponry ever invented (and worn). I think we'd be foolish not to stea... incorporate them in our fight against YOU!
Ah... Does this registering Hyrule Warriors thing still apply? I totes forgot to do that. I don't really play much anymore anyway, but... Maybe I'll do it? And that's too bad that we have such yucky Platinum Club Nintendo prizes. I see some of the goodies other countries get and we just... Well we don't get much of anything! Granted, I don't take a look at it all that often, but when I have it's not been impressive. We don't even get some of the snazzy premium bundles the other countries get!! For shame!!
I also read that Nintendo will be doing more spin offs with their titles similar to Hyrule Warriors. I wonder what that could mean... Mario Kart Warriors? Pikmin Warriors? Captain Toad Warriors? The possibilities are endless!! Hyrule Warriors Warriors! I can keep going if you'd like. But I'm glad that it sold well (please let Bayonetta sell well more though!!!). I've heard that even with 2 players some of the levels are really hard. I agree that some of the attacks just kinda hit you out of nowhere (especially with bad camera) and takes off all the lives. So furstrating. And really CCP not compatible eh? I guess we're lucky we own a couple of the Wii U Pro Controllers. Is that what they're called? I haven't even plugged the Wii U back in since I've come back home. It shall be soon. I've actually done more arting instead (which is probably better, but I'd like to get through the Bayunettu). I'm not sure what my favorite costume is yet though. I haven't used them much, but with my very limited time with the other costumes I think I like the Princess Peach/Daisy costumes. I'll have to check it out again (and then see what the costumes are like again in the sequel).

Would the forward blacku leatha cape be too OP though? I think four chatters equipped with it could obliterate all the time displaced teachers and they would no longer join your dance team. Even the wild geese and mutant guinea pigs would be appalled by the cheap incorpstealed tactics!
Ah, alas the costume thing no longer applies. That offer expired I think a few weeks ago. Though the costume thing isn't that big of a deal. My sister ended up not liking the Skyward Sword costumes that much compared to the default ones so we just use those. I personally like my OoT Ganon (even though his shoulders look really disproportional and huge with arms like tree trunks! Even DBZ characters have better proportions! Anyways the default costume looks ok, but the OoT just makes the proportions look strange since you don't have his big puffy hair there to help balance it out) but I think if I did not have him, I'd be ok having the default one, just like for Zelda and Linku. (Also if the time comes, may I have your Hyrule Warriors pin code if you are not using it?) And I agree, for shame! We really don't get the snazzy cool things that other countries (I'mma lookin' at uncapitalized you capitalized Japan!) do, but at least we were offered the Dinofu one. We have an ugly, not-eye-catching cover instead though! The European and Japanese one looks really nice! The only downside is that they don't show off multiplayer on the cover, but it definitely looks way nicer. It shows off that over-saturated Peruvian yellow too, which people's eyes just drift too instead of the black blotch that the US gets.
So many possibilities for spinoffs! I don't mind them, and I think it would make for some "fresh" experiences that normally people wouldn't consider. From what I read online, a lot of people have never played Dynasty Warriors (or have heard of it, like my sister or Garfeet, despite them being fairly seasoned gamers), and Hyrule Warriors were their first dip into this genre. I look forward to seeing what there will be! Mario Kart Warriors! Super star your way through endless hordes of anti-gravity bananas to defeat the vile Blue Shell! Is there any particular spinoff you'd like to see? Fire Emblem style Zelda would be pretty cool. Dinocile but in Nintendogs style would be funny to see too... take care of your own taco unicorn and clean up after its presents!
And hooray for getting through more arting! Boo for less Bayonetta I suppose. How many hours are you into it? I have done neither, uuhuuhuu. My greatest gaming achievement for the past two weeks was pretty much my straight line of 15's in Dinocile Turai Ooltimatuu. It looks so nice!

So I have missed out on the costume thingy eh? Oh well. So you like your Oot(ot) costume eh? With the giganto shoulders? I kinda don't like the base Ganon's hair. It's kinda... huge. It doesn't look horrible, but it doesn't light my eyes ablaze with goodness either. And of course you can have the pin code. Just let me know when you want that, or really any of them really. I don't use it so... You can has (but not YOU). I wish we had better uses for those codes, but so far not really. Even if they did I tend to forget to go online to their sites anyway. And why don't we get cool boxed sets (usually). I would have totally bought that Bayonetta boxed set!!
It doesn't surprise me that a lot of people never played Dynasty Warriors. They've never been hugely popular games here and the covers look fairly generic. And each game is pretty much exactly the same (which is basically Hyrule Warriors). It's one of those things where you either really like the system or you really don't. Even though it's a really simple combat system, it makes me appreciate Bayonetta's that much more. In that game each weapon has different timing and different button combinations for attack from the last one and also different button combinations in the air. They are completely different games though, and even saying that Dynasty Warriors just really always makes me happy somehow. I have been eating up those games basically since 2 (okay so I haven't bought them all, but I've bought a few plus Hyrule Warriors and they are all almost exactly the same). I'm glad they could get more people to give that style of game a chance by combing it with the Zelda franchise. I think it's smart to combine those big franchises into other genres to help sales. I would like to see more new IPs (go Splatoon!!), but I understand that a lot of people don't always give new IPs a chance. Especially when Nintendo refuses to really go all out with their marketing.
Hmm... Spinoffs I'd like to see... Besides the Mario Kart Warriors? Maybe a more stealth Zelda or Metroid game. I know especially in Metroid it's about Samus being really powerful, but I think a stealth some type of game would be fun. I know there are occasional stealth pieces in Zelda games, but I think it might be fun to a different take. Maybe Zelda using her magic to escape. Link not actually knowing how to use the Master Sword but still trying to play the hero. It may not be a great idea, but I like stealth games (despite not owning any...). Or why not a Nintendogs type game with Pokemon? Not really something I'd be totally interested in, but may be big for people who would rather raise Pokemon than fight them. Maybe even have some functionality where the Pokemon you breed can be transferred into the "main" game. I would love to see something in a survival-horror style by them (that's not Fatal Frame. Not that I don't want that game, but a different thing), but don't know of a game that really supports it (maybe combine that with the stealth thing). I don't know. Any other types of games you think may work? I think a Fire Emblem-styled Zelda game would be great as well. Not sure what else though. There's a lot of opportunity obviously. That Platinum-developed Metroid dream game sounds lovely as well.
I saw the 15 weapon arena thing. Lovely! So symmetrical! I think I'm about... 11 hours into Bayonetta? I think I'm about halfway through it, but I've replayed some levels and sometimes have left it on while I go and do something else (like trying to fix the modem, looking things up online really quickly, or pinching... I guess I could bring it with me while I pinch in the future). Arting has once again been put on the back burner. I get to doodle on occasion, but I haven't done much of significance recently. I should be able to get a bit done soonish hopefully. As you know I keep redesigning my challenge piece... as usual.

Ganon's big hair is ok, just because Demise's is like that, but OoT huge, disproportionate shoulders and receding hairline is far smexier. Oh how it doth alights my eyes with the black shimmering blacku leatha shoulder pads! I would love thy pin code sir! 220 coins left till Platinum!
I haven't played Hyrule Warriors in a couple days, minus turning it on to get my free prize of the day (and sometimes I wish I had a digital copy because that would make it more convenient, like how I use Wii Fit to just register Mobu- I mean, *my* 3000 calories burned and the three miles I totally ran that day- without having to keep ejecting the disk and putting it in the box and back out again. It's just a few extra steps, but after you've experienced the more instantaneous versions, it does feel really inconvenient. Actually it was entertaining the other day, when Garfeet wanted to play Mallio Kawt from the quick-start menu and kept asking why it wasn't there or why it wasn't working. I told him that he had to take Hyrule Warriors out, and physically put in the Mallio Kawt game disk... haha I guess it is easy to forget these days with all the phone apps! Or even those kids who were trying to figure out how to play the NES, and were surprised at how they had to put a game in it.
Yes, it all comes down to marketing again. I think we briefly discussed it, but supposedly Destiny actually isn't that good (I think Little Big Planet 3, which supposedly was worse than 1 and 2, has higher ratings than Destiny) but everyone thinks it is and wants to play it because it was well advertised and you see it everywhere! Nintendo, do some more advertising please! I think Splatoon, if given a non-cringey commercial, could do super well. Or Xenoblade. It has space and monsters and pyew pyew and even though I am not a fan of the style, the graphics look nice! And Bayonetta needs some love. Commercials are expensive though... and a lot of people run adblock so that doesn't help either.
You're right, a Fire Emblem-styled Zelda game would be something interesting and hopefully get more people into Fire Emblem. It has the potential to work very well! I guess they'd have to do the Hyrule Warriors thing with Link though, how Proxi did the talking for him (which I thought was a great idea). And I can see people enjoying Nintendogs-styled Pokemon. I just wonder how they'll pick which Pokemon to put in it? I feel like that would be great to address the portion of people who don't raise Pokemon to battle, but just to hang out at home. Or maybe it would be like a Pokecenter simulation. (With surgery! Like that one game... Trauma was it?) Such wonderful ideas you have! Hm, no stealth games? According to my handy dandy Assassin's Creed, you have a copy of that I thinks? Oh! I think a Smash Cooking Mama would be interesting for a certain group. Like how do you cook meals you'd find throughout the franchises, such as red potion (strawberries and cranberry juice for antioxidant health up!) or super spicy curry. I guess it also depends on how they approach- do they make it "realistic" or do they have you calling up the Great Fairy to have her help Samus find some magic jalapeno turnips on the Bionis? I know they already have a Art Academy with Pokemon, so what if they made it a Smash Art Academy? Or just in general, a Smash Warriors would be interesting. So many worlds to choose from! It would be like the story mode that never was for Smuush!
I thought for sure I'd post something on the Tuesday that just passed, but I completely forgot! Assassin's Creed came in the mail and my free time went to playing that (I want to wait for my sister before playing Smuush), and before I knew it, even Honolulu time couldn't save me! Yesterday I did a tiny, tiny bit on the cabin background, but that was about it for arting. Oh! And doodling in the dA Holiday Card project, I did that for arting too! Other than that, it is on the back back back burner, which is unfortunate. I guess it's to be expected around this time of the year. Have you redesigned your challenge piece lately? How about any watercoloring?

Well, seeing Ganon with his giganto hair is such a disappointment when I could have his receding hairline. I mean... I could stare at it receding all day. But the big hair? Where is the bald? I can't find his scalp!! No sir, I do not approve. Please dispense your full, lush hair for something far thinner. I don't actually hate it, but you know me. I love to stir up drama! With... Umm... Ganon? And ask and ye shall receive. Boom! Platinumatic status for you!!
Oh, so exerciso you are!! Mobutt YOU Uncapitalized you so totally ran so much and burned off da calories!! Tell me your secret. Please... I'll wait... And I hadn't tried playing anything from the quick start menu that wasn't there. I haven't played a ton of games recently. We still play Smuush, but Bayonetta has taken a backseat for the moment (I am off for a few days so hoping to remedy that). And I have no clue what you mean by phone apps. I'm still trying to rotary dial numbers on this here phoney and it won't do anything!! Where's the ring tone? The cords? Get off my lawn!!
Is Destiny really not good? I think we've discussed this via phone letters. It did get quite a bit of marketing though. I know that those companies have bigger advertising budgets, but sometimes it seems that Nintendo's is nonexistent. Again, I think we've discussed this before, but there are a lot of games that needs Nintendo to advertise to do well. Something like a new Mario game, Mallio Kawt, or Smuush might not need quite as much (but they got pretty decent ad campaigns) since those are huge titles that everyone buys. But like you said, Bayonetta is not something your typical person even knows about. Or Pikmin, Wonderful 101, Splatoon will definitely need it being a brand new IP as well. And while it all costs money to advertise, it is also usually necessary to get word out to actually make money back and hopefully a profit. Please sell well Bayonetti and Splatoon! Xenoblade too while we're at it!!
Hehe, I think you were the one that mentioned Fire Emblem Zelda and I just echoed my agreement. But it does seem like it could be a very nice little mishmash. And you're right about the Nintendogs Pokemon... They have like a jabillion of those things now huh? I... I'm not sure. Maybe if they didn't do a ton for graphics it could be made. I mean, just a farm-like setting, maybe a vet, and room with just the Pokemon would be doable? Who knows. I probably would play it though... And that surgery game you're thinking of is called "Trauma Center" I believe. I had that game on the DS and thought it was a lot of fun. I think I still have it somewhere...
How do you like Assassin's Creed? I never really played them, but my brother played a little. I think he liked it enough, but it wasn't enough to keep his attention for long. I forget what bothered him about it. And have you mailed your dA Christmas card? What was it like? I have my idea, or at least a style down for it. I have my Santa down. Have to figure out what other figures will be in it and what not. If there will be a lovely pun or just some well wishes as well. Challenge piece has been stuck since for some reason I've felt really busy lately and tired with work. I've found out somethings with how to use Manga Studio that has got me excited (more just shortcuts like hiding/showing all the menus with "tab" I believe, dragging the picture, setting up mixing palette, etc). So now that I get a few days off I'm hoping to really tackle some more art. Watercolor has unfortunately taken a huge backseat. I haven't actually done anything since... That bird. That was so long ago!! Sometimes I look at home much preparation and cleanup there is and I delay it until the next day... and then the next. I'm going to just start up again to at least get the feeling for it back. Hmmm... I have some ideas actually. Maybe I could make a Christmas card with that... That might actually be fun and doable....

Platinumatic status for me? Oh golly goodie! And it's all thanks to Ganon having a receding hairline sometimesu in favor of having luscious mountains of locks! Receding hairlines are so fetching for those of the Underchinster Club!
Both me and my sister were under the impression that Destiny would be amazing, and it's... it's not bad, from what I see. It seems it is a lot of fun for people who haven't played FPS in a decade. There's only two stages (big ones), decent graphics (nothing jaw dropping, that's for sure), and the same general gameplay you'd expect. You can shoot people, throw grenades, and have a special close range attack. Nothing dazzling. There's a reasonable degree of character customization. You have to be online at all times to play though, even though you're not really playing with other people. Also it takes about sixteen centuries to load. I don't think I would recommend it at $60, but if you found it for under $40 like we did (we got it for $15), it's seems just fine. It did get a ton of marketing huh? And they did fantastic with the advertising art. It looks cool, huge, and fabulous for everyone to play. The name is nice too. It certainly has a more "hardcore" and "fabulous to roll off your lips" sound to it, compared to say, "I like to play Monstercilechatter!" Even if it is difficult and punishing and very engaging and has multiplayer, the name itself just spurs people with reasonable English proficiency away! Anyways though I agree, the advertising played such a huge part on its success. I think I've seen like one poster for Bayonetta, but I see Destiny everywhere, even in Costco.
Trauma Center! That's right, that is what I was thinking of. Now that I'm playing a bit of Fantasy Life, I think making a Pokemon Life would be pretty fun, but I don't think Nintendo would like the idea of people killing their little creations and harvesting say, pikacheeks and bulbalivers from them for the sake of making a spankin' new chair. But who wouldn't want a chair made of cheeks and livers? Hipstahs only I say! Hipstahs who like eating $9 fish tacos and $10 knife-red-sharpness breads with 70% fat meats!
Assassin's Creed I think we covered some of it in text, but I'll put more impressions here! I guess I liked the graphics and the general gameplay. The exploration was great. Sly Cooper for adults, minus the comedy! I did not like how long it takes to walk from one place to the next with nothing to do in between though. Warp points are few, and they put in a lot of stuff into the game without actually explaining it (or they didn't explain it well) so I didn't bother with them, such as crafting or sending out shipments. The game was significantly shorter than anticipated, unless you're aiming for 100% then it'll be really long and tedious. I mostly enjoyed the characters, but sometimes I feel like two different people are writing the main character and just squashed their dialogues together in hopes that it would work out. The fight choreography was nice, and I liked that they incorporated many historical events. The ending as you know, I did not like. It makes me wonder if I should play Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 just so it feels satisfactory, but I have the feeling that with this kind of game, once you've played one, you've played them all (not unlike many other games I suppose). The setting and characters just change. I wouldn't mind keeping up with the AC series because it was fun and I adore the theme song(s), but only if I can find the game for under $20. I don't like it enough that I'd shell out $60 for it, especially when I have such a backlog of games to play in the meantime. I'm sure the multiplayer is a lot of fun though. The single player campaign is just way too short, at least in AC3.
I have mailed my dA Christmas card! I think I ended up sending you the same cards though (polar bear and small red train? Maybe? Wait no, one of them was the lardman, so I think you did not get the small red train). The premium membership hasn't arrived yet (good! I need to catch up on all these messages here before I can think to take advantage of it! It'll be out before January 31, so I'm hoping me and my sister get ours later than sooner). Have you made any watercolor minus your lovely Santas since the bird? I know you have all those delicious inks and markers now to play with. I look forward to seeing your abstract food piece! We are taking some very different approaches to how abstract works! Since it's relatively "easy" compared to the other themes, I hope that other people will pick it too. I really want to see what everyone else will do to interpret abstract meal.

It is a shame really. I feel like they have a decent library for the Wii U now, but thanks to their very poor marketing (I haven't seen a Nintendo advertisement in years unless I Youtube it!) they aren't selling as many as they could have. I hope they won't botch the advertising for Bayonetta 2. That has the potential to do pretty well only if they market it correctly. Word of mouth from people who actively keep up with their games only gets so far! A lot of people in my class have never heard of the 3DS, even though they own a DS, much less the Wii U. I love Nintendo, but they really need to get working the word out about their games!
