Happy Almost Valentine's Day!Here's my annual submission for DA's Valentine Exchange event. A few months ago, marmiz got me Yoshi's Woolly World, which is what inspired this piece. Admittedly, I haven't had much time to play so I'm still only in the beginning of the second world but...from what little I have seen, it's a very charming game and I really enjoy the co-op. I'm sure it'll be one of my favorite platformer games on the Wii U.

I haven't gotten very far in the game, but so far I enjoy it! They use a crafting art style with most things made out of yarn, so it looks very pleasing to the eye! It's one of those games where it is quite easy to beat, but if you wanted to collect everything (which helps unlock more Yoshis to use and special stages to play), it could be a little tricky to find everything if not using a guide, even for a seasoned gamer. While it is easier in one player, it's a lot more fun with two people. I'm just happy to have something nice to play co-op with people that is easy to pick up as well.

I looked up some gameplay videos, and I like the idea of keeping everything in yarn, gives a nice effect!

Very much so! And unlike some of the other amiibo, I don't have to worry about a sword breaking off if I drop it haha! And definitely, everything in yarn and fabric is a refreshing visual style to see.

Well, one game that impressed me would be DKC back when I was a kid. Back then DKC had some really ground-breaking graphics and it was one my very first games for my SNES.

That's right! I remember you briefly mentioned your fondness for DKC in one of your letters awhile back. For a game that was released way back on the SNES, it was really ahead of its time in level design and music!

It was indeed! I really love the soundtrack there, the thing is, I don't realize how beautiful a soundtrack can be while playing the game, it's when I listen to it on it's own that I hear how much effort was put into it.

I agree! It's fun picking out all the different instruments and comparing the melody and harmony once you can hear these songs on their own. It's pretty fun to see how much they put into it to set the mood and create an immersive experience!

Indeed! Many soundtracks are so beautiful, and add so much to the atmosphere! I think you notice that subconsciously when you play, but don't really appreciate it until you hear it on it's own or something. XD

Definitely true! I suppose the opposite works as well- a poorly composed or ill-placed soundtrack can really ruin a game's atmosphere as well (I think in my experience, recently Xenoblade Chronicles X is guilty of this, as their main hub song is quite an obnoxious and unusual rap that plays over the characters speaking haha.), and it becomes all the more noticeable then how important a good soundtrack is and really helps us appreciate the ones that work well!

Hahaha, it's so obnoxiious when the soundtrack is so loud you can hardly hear the characters! XD Now I might have to check that out just to hear it, even if I can like some songs, rock and rap aren't usually my jam. XD

Haha here's Xenoblade's main hub song! You can probably tell by the ratings and some of the comments that others have come to a similar conclusion I have...it's not terribly suitable to be the song that plays the most often, plus all the "uh uh yeah yeah" playing over the characters talking doesn't quite work out.

Oh man, that song is so out of place and sounds weird for a hub song for Xenoblade. XD
I can bet this theme is quite annoying to listen to, especially if you can't hear the characters over the singing, haha. XD
But I guess they were trying, and some people actually liked it in the comments, so to each their own. ^^

Haha it is pretty funny isn't it? XD It's such a huge game though, so I'd imagine when people spend more time in the world, the music will grow on them even if they didn't like it initially. (That happened to me for Fantasy Life, where I really wasn't fond of the soundtrack and had to play the game largely on mute, but over time it's gotten tolerable). And of course plenty of people enjoy this freestyle rap style of music for the hub, even if it plays over the characters!

Nice! I hope that you had a great time at both your dad's and your grandma's place for Easter! Double the celebration, double the fun! Now Mother's Day is almost coming up... it's like one celebration right after the other haha! We ended up doing a small dinner today, since we're sure that this weekend, all the restaurants are going to be jam packed! Every other store we visit, even the hardware store and lumber yards, are filled with bouquets of flowers for last-minute shoppers! Is Mother's Day a big holiday in Sweden?

It's always nice to get to to spend time with relatives, especially ones you haven't seen in awhile! I hope that you'll be able to meet with them again soon. In a few weeks, I'll be going to Hong Kong so I'm excited to see my extended family again! (It'll be a little sad though, since we found out my grandma was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. Still, it will also be a celebration of the life she's lived so far and a hope that she'll continue to do well!) And although this is very late, I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Mother's Day!

I'm sure they were! Nintendo seem to really enjoying using the crafting look with the Yoshi and Kirby series, from the felt storybook style of "Yoshi's Story," to the more recent clay look of "Kirby and the Rainbow Curse." And of course all the yarn! It's a nice change to see once in awhile.
