Huu huu welcome back to dA baralaoshi! (By the way, did you know it's now properly stylized as DA? Looks so weird and not so 'deviant' after being used to the other version huh?) Post more, post more! We need another art day together! We're going to draw so many big buff men in aprons, your favorite! 

Haha I knew someone was going to comment on the leg! Believe it or not, that leg was originally just a placeholder I slopped down with no intents for proper anatomy. Put in some beige and random pink on the edge with a size 100 pinkish inkpen, then a size 300 blur pen to smudge it together on opacity lock as a temporary leg! (Meanwhile other parts were done using size 0.7 to detail) I ultimately kept it just because it looked half decent and wasn't a focus of the challenge piece, plus I figured it'd be mostly hidden. Good eye there though!

I totally captured Reen perfectly. He most definitely wears protective bulky armor and holds poo in his bare hands dramatically. I am glad you noticed how incredibly accurate he is with his eight pack and orange hair. His pecs of steel were definitely inspired by your likeness.

Poop with a cute little red bow eh? After you pointed that out, it does! Cannot be unseen! Now I know what to get you for Christmas! You're going to be so pleased!

Actually we're already in G rank, beat gogmazios (including the event one) several times, and completed all the aged texts too, but thanks for the advice anyways. I agree, the seregios gear has some great stats and nice raw, plus it makes one of the best possible bows in the game as well. I started drawing this when we were in high rank, but only finished it now months later haha!

On a slightly related note, the upgraded Seregios Hunting Horn looks like a chicken leg. I might learn how to use the Hunting Horn just to make that. XD

I agree, that hunting horn does ultimately look like a chicken leg! When I first made it, the design surprised me because it didn't seem to match the rest of the gear. It's not elegant nor particularly cool looking, but the humor more than makes up for it! It's not every day you can whack a dinosaur with an oversized snack.

Thank you! I'm also glad the group can come together and play, though the group has definitely shrunk considerably compared to a few years ago, and the frequency we play has decreased substantially! I guess that makes each time we play all the more special though, and we have to cherish every moment we have available.  

And like most dinosaurs in the game, the gore magala seems tricky at first, but then when you recognize the patterns it isn't too bad, though they have improved the AI quite a bit since the PS2 days! As with most of the new dinosaurs, it's quite fun to hunt. Unfortunately they've also included a lot of the older monsters, which is great for variety and nostalgia, but they haven't quite updated their movesets or animations. The older ones have some really awkward, unnatural animations with some terrible hitboxes, as if they've ported them straight from the first game 10 years ago and just updated the graphics! XD As a result, while the new monsters like gore magala are an enjoyable challenge, some of the older monsters are challenging in the wrong way! Still I adore the series (as you can probably tell from my letters haha!) and hope to draw many more group pictures in the future!

Yeah, even if you can't meet very often it must still feel very special to do so, and you will carry the memories with you always!

Haha, even with those glitches it seems like a fun rpg game with some hunting elements, which is always a win. ^^

Yeah, I know. I play Monster Hunter all the time. Been playing since MHF2 on the PSP where I was first introduced to the series.

Awesome! I haven't met many hunters who've also known the series since the PSP days. Haha and yeah, Reen is the guy in the back. Birthday armor is the only armor he needs! All he "carved" was gore magala dung while everyone else got cool stuff. Poor guy. Perhaps he feels both ashamed and unworthy of this mighty infected dung.

Since it's coming out in Japan in November, I'd assume that ours would come out in mid/late 2016, and a lot of people in the west have already "beat" MH4U months ago and are ready for the next one. (Not me though, I feel like I still have a lot of stuff to do in MH4U, though there is a year to accomplish all that XD). I think they said they weren't making a G/U version of X, so hopefully that means we're getting MHX since there's no MHXU!

That's true as well. I'd like to think optimistically though, since MH4U did sell fairly well, and as long as they don't change their mind and make an MHXU, I don't see why MHX wouldn't make it over. It's not a complete spinoff the way Poke Poke Village or the card game was. I think they hinted about MHX for the west at some point last month, but I could be wrong about that. As you've said, it's not entirely unsurprising if they don't release it since localization and translation costs are huge. Regardless, we do have MH4U and loads of other games to tide us over till whatever comes out next!

Well I'd like to see Tonfas like in Frontier, and I'd LOVE to see underwater combat return. I actually really liked fighting underwater. Though it SEEMS like MHX is gonna bring that back (AND LAGI! LAGIIIII! <3)

I agree, ever since the tonfas were shown, I hoped that they would make it to the main series. They look like they'd be a lot of fun to play around with. I'm also hoping for another long range weapon for more variety in MH5U!

In an interview, they said that MHX isn't going to have underwater levels (or guild quests or frenzied monsters) so they could focus on what was new and unique to MHX. But it's nice to see lagi return, and I guess his moveset will probably be fairly similar to ivory since there's no underwater part. While I don't care much for how his armor looks, he does make for an enjoyable fight!

What would we get for more long range weapons, really? Just plain guns with actual bullets? Swords on chains Ala' GoW? Disks that always come back to you like a boomerang? ... Actually, I like that last one.

I'd like to have small monster minions like in frontier, or maybe even real monster -mounts- like freaking riding a Rathalos into battle! That would be hella epic.

... This is making me want to work on my MH-based monster raising game again.

There are a ton of things they could do with long range weapons. If they can come up with something like a bug stick for a weapon, they can reach out to something creative and interesting than just plain guns or mace-like things (both of which could be changed to be a lot of fun of course, especially with how each MH progresses and new gameplay is added). The boomerang-like weapon is an "obvious" choice, though the bug stick in a way is already like that, the way the bug goes back and forth. Knowing them though, should they ever make a third class of long-range weapons, they'll surprise us with something nifty. The three most recent new weapons in the main series- swax, charge blade, and bug stick, are all not really conventional weapons with how they work, so I'd assume something unconventional for the next thing they have. 

Smaller monster minions would be nice as well (at this rate, the main series will become Frontier if they implement all those changes! XD). And Stories already has the mounts, so it doesn't look like they'd do that for the main series, at least not any time soon. I'm sure a lot of people really like that idea though, since they've made an entire spinoff game of it, not to mention I think they plan to work on an anime adaptation as well.

But the armor for the ranged weapons can look so fabulous! While I don't like the asymmetry the arms tend to have, most of the gunner armor is less bulky and less likely to have this massive butt that their blademaster counterparts have. It's not quite my cup of tea, even though it seems a lot of people like it. If I have to look at my character for awhile, especially his back, he better be looking most dapper! That said, I haven't worked on making a gunner set yet since I figured I should wait till I'm "rich" to start gunning/bowing. XD 

Yeah, I think it would be great if they brought Frontier over! A shame that so much work and money is needed for localization, though supposedly last year Capcom was considering/working on it.

They're not for everyone, but for those who enjoy it, they're so versatile and do a crazy amount of damage! 

And fashion over defense and skills any time! XD Knowing when to evade, or block with certain weapons, also helps a lot too if you have low defense. We actually used a low rank set up through mid-G rank, then finally decided to get high rank gear just because we liked how the low rank set looked and couldn't be bothered to get the high version. It was only recently we made the switch to G rank gear despite having already unlocked all the aged text and basically being post-game. But whatever works for each person! I know a lot of people make mixed sets for skills with no regard to looks, or just purely beef up on the defense, and that is what works best for them. 

Did you want him in his current G rank gear, or just any whatever reference in anything? If you're not in a hurry, I'll have the G rank group picture done before January 2016.

... Wow. How the frick did you manage? I'd never be able to do that. But for me it's def function over form. Defense is a good offense, So I look for anything with high defense.. especially defense up XL. I may think that the Hermitaur armor looks stupid, but those skills are to die for! Except for the horrid thunder res.

We managed! Obviously these were no speedruns, but soloing G rank monsters in low rank partially upgraded gear is doable. If I'm going to cart, it's going to be while looking most dapper! I don't play that often either so I'd prefer to have a character that looks nice on the rare chances I do get to play. Once you know which monsters have the weird hitboxes, it's not so bad. I don't deny though that now that we have G rank gear, it does make the fight easier and you can afford to be much more careless! XD And the hermitaur armor has nice tanking skills. I don't think it looks bad, especially if you can mix a piece or two into it. 

When I finish the G rank group picture, you'll have your reference then! Though it would probably be closer to December when that gets done.

Well, that would only apply to games and not real life of course, but that is definitely true. Videogames are interactive art, and I'm going to look at nicer art when I can. It's a nice bonus that coincidentally even though the defense is low, the skills are decent as well. This philosophy has served me well since MHF, so I don't see why I shouldn't continue with it! There's also a satisfaction knowing that I have enough skill to still enjoy the hunts in subpar armor. (That said, better defense would make it a more relaxing and quicker hunt, not to mention far less potion chugging if it wasn't a OHKO). Over time we'll unravel more of each other's gaming preferences I'm sure. Do you have any particular things you look for in weapons then?

Not particularly? I mean I try to weigh every option I have to see which is better, of course, so once again it's Function > Form. Currently my main weapons are a G-Rank Jaggi SwitchAxe (Which I hope to upgrade into a Chameloes one), The Exemplar Blade, A Shagaru Magala Parkour Stick, and I am working on making a Rathalos or Rathian Chargeblade for the Gs! I am also trying to upgrade my Magala GS for the Gs as well. I'm the type who likes to hit HARD while taking as little damage as possible even when hit. And yet I'm terrible with the hammer. XD

Ok I see! And nice choices in weapons as well. Haha hammer is fun to use but deceptively tricky to use efficiently for something with relatively simple controls!

I know some people for their weapons, refuse to use something that "everyone else" is using so they can be different, or others choose pure raw over sharpness and element. Others only use top-tier speed run weapons with very specific sets, and a few just have that one favorite weapon that isn't particularly good but they use it all the time anyways. Then there are the joke weapons too that others favor just because why not? XD It's interesting to see how people approach their armor and weapon choice, and I guess if we get MHX, we'll see what reasons people choose certain hunting arts or felyne/hunter character to use as well!
