Start from the Beginning
Almost finished the Chapter!
The Flowerfell comic is a tribute to Siviosanei's AU and fanfiction 'Overgrowth'. The story doesn't belong to me and my art only serves to bring the story to life.
Any extra scenes or dialogue are there to help explain motivations, fill plot holes or give characters a 3D feel. The overarching story and plots will stay the same.

Ok, this is very interesting to see. He looks away when he tries to kill Frisk and actually makes a point in killing them as quickly as possible. That, of course, doesn't make the death experience less horrible but he doesn't know Frisk resets and remembers every time they died.
Also - DEAR GOD his pauldrons are HUGE!

Indeed he does! The original FF Papy is uncharacteristically merciless and untalkative.
I feel I had to give the sense that it is indeed still Papy, but very much corrupted

YES! FUCK YES! Oh god the thing I absolutely DESPISED about the original Overgrowth, as good as it was, was how one-dimensional and villanous they made Fell!Papyrus. Now, I'm not gonna harp on about character because for an AU, you can do what you want. But personally, if these are more broken versions of Undertale, Papyrus' corruption into this mindset is one of the most tragic things about it. But he's never heartless. Honestly, he probably DOES thing he's doing Frisk a mercy here, and THIS! THIS IS WHAT I MEAN! God this just takes something and improves on it tenfold, and I just!!! THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THANK YOU

YEAH absolutely! I am gonna be rewriting some of the characters as they are very 1-D and the dialogue is well.....pooor….
I want Papy from this AU to be torn and to have much higher complexities in his motives. And you're right, classic Papy is so innocent and kind and good spirited! Whereas Fell Papy is...just sad to see
He always has the big heart though, and while he knows Frisk's soul is the last needed and it's his job (he also has high EXP), it doesn't completely erase all of his "humanity".
Perhaps he sees something familiar looking back at him?

From a contextual perspective, I know why some of that is. In regards to Frisk, I remember reading on the original author's blog that it was inspired by their father? He was ill, but refused to have treatment (I think it may have been his sight, hence Frisk's gradual blindness) so that his children could go to school, which had a huge impact on them. Now, on a context perspective, that's a beautiful analogy. But in the story, Frisk's blindness isn't self-sacrificial for those they already love--it's a byproduct of their mercy, and for beings that they never get an emotional attachment to bar Sans and Flowey. And even then, Frisk has very little characterisation beyond their mercy and refusal to hurt others--we don't know what music they liked, what jokes made them laugh, what frustrates them. We DO know this of Sans, which... makes Overgrowth more of his story, than Frisk's. If anything, they're just an idea.
Papyrus doesn't even have that context. He just IS cruel. No explanation, no hints, we don't even see his relationship with Sans beyond their squabbles. Not even the downtime.

Maybe that's why they were so overprotective of the Flowerfell AU when all that chaos happened?
It probably felt very personal to them and other people changing the story too much was in a way offensive to their father and his sacrifices he made for their family?
I agree with you that it feels like I'm questioning "why do they care so much, they don't even know these monsters"!
I'm hoping to add in more moments and details which show the monsters becoming kinder or bonding a bit with Frisk due to their actions. I'm also going to
include way more conversations and details between Flowey, Frisk and Sans to show them learning about one another, bonding and so forth.
It does feel like more of Sans' story than Frisk which is a shame.
I do believe I will also give Frisk more capabilities to talk and move later on despite the flowers. It should only be right towards the end (probs after/during MT fight and right before the King) that they really start losing their health.
This would give me more possibilities to use Frisk as the main character and show their determination to help the monsters.

I think he absolutely wants to kill her for the soul, so close to escaping after all! But I suppose, there is an odd sense of finality for him. That it really is all over and is that a good thing?
