Sketch of the main setting of Tír na nÓg: Legend and the hometown of Hikaru, Poulsbo. Based on a place where I grew up. Poulsbo is a small town on Liberty Bay in Kitsap County. It is Washington state's "Little Norway", a quaint Scandinavian fishing village on the Puget Sound.
In designing Poulsbo, I wanted to recreate the classically sweet and innocent Americana feel, drawing from photos of small towns in the '50s and Norman Rockwell. I want the reader/audience to feel safe and comfortable in the town so that seeing a bloodthirsty monster or troll in the middle of the street would be that much more unnerving.
