This is a Borcla an animal native to Eastern Continent on the planet Nlia
NLIA
Nlia , is a planet that exists in my AU Star Trek ‘New Start’ verse
seekhim.deviantart.com/gallery…
It is the home of the Nlians who are members of the United Federation of Planets
The planet has three landmasses:
The Northern Land: A tiny northern island continent, roughly the size of Turkey.
The Western Land: A large western continent the size of Eurasia
The Eastern Land: A large eastern continent about the size of Asia.
The two southern continents are collectively referred to as the Southern Lands
They are comprised mostly of desert with arid grasslands at the northern coasts and southern tips.
EASTERN CONTINENT/ Eastern Sands Region
The Eastern Sands region is located on the Eastern Continent and takes up much of the landmass
It is a hot desert region with many rock formations, plateaus, dunes, salt flats and large areas of desert pavement.
Although a desert, there are oases, streams and shallow lake beds that fill during the brief rainy season.
Vegetation is sparse but there are areas of grassland, desert shrubs and flowers.
At oases and other places were water collects there are trees.
The region has eight city states and that is where most of the population lives.
Outside of the eight city states are small farms and tiny groups of nomads
BORCLA
Ximos are small four-legged, grazing animals indigenous to the Eastern Sands region.
They are the second largest mammals on the continent.
Biology
Borcla are herbivorous with a diet mostly consisting of grass.
If grass is not available they will eat herbs, sedges, forbs and cacti.
They can go long periods without water gaining moisture from the food they eat.
They're most active in the mornings and afternoons and rest during the heat of the day in the shade.
Both males and females have horns.
They use their horns for defense from predators, digging and mating displays.
They are very agile and good climbers.
Their primary defense mechanism is to flee from danger.
If cornered they will charge, butt, or threaten by hoof stamping.
This is particularly true for females with babies.
Herds
Borcla live in herds of up to 25.
They don't defend territories but do have home ranges of up to 10 square kilometers.
Large herds consist of females and their offspring.
Males form smaller bachelor herds that stay in the same territory as the females.
Reproduction
Borcla are sexually mature at eight months
Females usually reproduce one or two babies per year.
Other Animals
Borcla are often found in close proxemity to Skyree which tend to protect smaller animals close to them.
Domestication
For thousands of years Nlians have domesticated Borcla for their meat, milk and hides.
Only a percentage are domesticated and there are many wild herds.
