Well, actually the WWI rifle was a Gewehr 1898. A lot longer and heavier. Kar98k, the K stands for Kurz, short in German. A shorter version of the WWI rifle. Shown here is a Kar98k looking drawing.

You do not have to teach me German, I passed A-levels in it 6 years ago.
Indeed, the Kar.98k appeared in 1935, but older Gewehr 98 was not retired during WW2. I have seen photos of soldiers from second-line Wehrmacht units, who were armed with WW1 rifles in 1942. Those photos did not look falsified.

We're talking about the Kar.98k though. It was only used in WWII.

You're missing the point. The Gewehr 98 and the Kar98k are not the same rifle. They're similar.
