Description This hoggie 4-another rescue sent to me as a gift...(see that trend..?)

She was rescued from some *naughty word deleted* who abandoned her and his other snakes. She was found in a closet in a box with no food and no water. So my friend-knowing I was hoggie expert-sent her to me.

She is out right the sweetest, friendiest, curious snake I have ever seen! She is fairly large but not as large as they get-yet. Not sure how old she is-I do know she bred once before I got her-so she's mature.

We don't name our snakes (since snakes can't hear air borne sounds)-but some earn names-we call her simply "Sweety".

what does hoggie mean? She looks gorgeous! My darling snake is called Coconut. I love your gallery! I see we have similar interests in photo subjects. But I am still getting used to my new camera and it's macro function.

"Hoggie" is for Hognose Snake.

I know that getting used to the macro feeling!!!

I'll have a look at your gallery!

What species is your snake. (it's probably in your gallery right)
*going to look*.

She's a Coastal Carpet Python. I have a few pics of her eating a rat (probably on about page 9 or 10) and I have a few close-ups of her and one with her tongue out (probably about page 4).

I've never heard of Hognose *rushes to google*

"Sweety" looks great on this picture!! Very nice shot of her!!!
Is she just sliding around in the house?
Why do people buy snakes, and then drop them somewhere?!?! We all know they grow big. It's so good you look after them!!!

seto2112 In reply to webworm [2007-01-04 08:03:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! ^__^ She's in her cage being nice a quiet-like all snakes. LOL!

Why do people buy snakes? some to llok cool-others because they really them and still others...

Western Hognose aren't very big-max is like 24 inches. It's not like they are 20 foot pythons..I don't get it..and why people think a python will stay small-it's simple-they don't read about the animals before buying them!

Stoopid people!
Strange things with animals happen here too: A woman was looking after about 40 cats. They found many of them dead in her freezer and she didn't feed them for days!!!!! They were locked up in her house.

Did I tell you we had a python and a king cobra under our house when I lived in Thailand (as a kid)?

No you didn't mention-I'd love to have that happen!!

She will be punished for it. Something like this happened to her in the past too (the article said).
We had many different kinds of snakes in the garden. But we've never seen the 2 big ones, they only came out in the dark. The gardner tried to catch them to give them to the snake farm in Bangkok. But he never succeeded.
We were not allowed to play in the garden without shoes, but we didn't like to wear shoes, so we didn't. We were not affraid at all.

There was a case of animals being in a house like that dead animals all over the property-they got all the animals out-dead and alive-and condemned the house. (demolishing is in the near future)

I know places I would not want to walk in bare feet-like in South Carolina-in this one area-I stepped into the grass along the road and nearly stepped on a Copperhad snake-then a bit later in a different spot-FIRE ANTS!!! The Eastern DiamondBack Rattler in my gallery here was also sitting in the grass along the road... O_O

I'd still love to see something like that living under or around my house.

Oh, yes it would be wonderful to have more animals round the house!
Unfortunately I live in a small country with alot of houses, only wild animals in special nature parks. We have bats, frogs and hedgehoks in the garden.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I love hedgehogs!!! I used to play with a European Hedgehog at the place I worked! I love them!!!! It bit Jim Fowler!! He doesn't love hedgehogs anymore!! LOL!!

Bats--I love bats!!! the frogs go without saying.. ^__^

I didn't know hedgehogs bite!!! I love them too!!! Sometimes we have baby hedgehogs in the garden.....aaahhhhh
When I was a kid I was a bit frightened by bats, but now I like them. It's so special to have one flying around in your own garden. Summerevenings are wonderful, with the bats and the hedgehogs!!! Late at night you can hear the snoaring sound of the hedgehogs.

Did you know that hedgehogs like to eat chicken? I didn't know that either but that 's how Jim Fowler got bitten-he smelled like chicken. LOL!

I love bats too!!! I love to go out to the lake near our house and sit on the dock and watch the bats come into get the bugs under the light on the dock-it's so cool!

When was kid-I ran into a bat-not sure how that happened-he flew right into my face while I was running--a love of bats followed! I have some very funny bat tales because they used to get into my parent's house alot!.

It seems that hedgehogs eat alot of things I didn't know about. Do you put milk out for them?

Oh-hey when you're a kid and critter hits you in the face-it's a cool thing!! LOL!

I've been hit by birds but only in my car or on my bicycle.

It's a bad thing when the state bird species hits your windshield-it got me going-OMG I just hit the state bird-will I get arrested for that-*thinks*-but ocifer it hit ME!! LOL! And so I never removed the tags from pillows either...

No, I don't put milk out for them! I know it's not good for them. I also warn other people about the milk!

Luckely I've never been hit by birds!

What's a state bird species?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

seto2112 In reply to webworm [2007-02-12 06:04:37 +0000 UTC]

See now I didn't know milk was bad for them-I had only heard about people doing that. Good to know ^__^

State Bird Species-here in the states have "symbols" like the state bird, state bug, state tree, state flower--not sure who picks those--but they have to be native to the state. Our is the Ruffed Grouse. I remember not long ago they picked a state bug-but they used the Latin name and as it turns out the bug (a certains species of Firefly) isn't native to our state dispite the Latin name-LOL! It's sort of silly but they do it-then they can put it on the state flag...and all.

Awww, what a cute little girl!

You know. . . Im amazed the hoggie wouldnt escape back into the wild. . . I mean, when my dad was a little boy, he cought hoggies all the time, and kept them as pets. Once he got tired of caring for them, he let them go.

seto2112 In reply to docszoo223 [2007-01-03 19:39:16 +0000 UTC]

Now that you mention it-hoggies seem to almost never try to escape unless you actually leave the cage open for a week!

Well Madagascars are a bit more on escaping but they never go far. I usually find the monsters on top of the PC. I call them monsters cos they are huge (6 feet and they get bigger) and one will bite!

the-moof wants one of those. You should talk to him about it. He is a madagascar freak, and has allways been in love with the hoggies. He would realy appreciate you talking about how to aquire the malagasy hoggies. The dificult thing for him is that he lives in switzerland lol!

You know what he can get in Switzerland that I'd be jealous of-Lystrophis dorbignyi (one of the rare South American Hgonsoe that rarely are bred in the US and almost never imported here)-I'm sure he's have no problem getting one from the guy I know in Sweden.

Western Hogs seem fairly common in petshops and from breeders in most countries-surprisingly.

Mad hogs-I know he would like...I wasn't aware he was in Switzerland when I sent him a list of ones I saw for sale-but he still might able to get one-either from the US or maybe Africa. I'll have to do some looking around.
