It's funny you should comment on this one today, because I was talking to my mom... emailed her the revamp of my web site and her comment was "I like it but I hate the way you did her eyebrows"...

I still can't get over your portraits. You have a unique style and technique that I haven't seen anyone else do. Somehow you make the entire image look...glossy. With a pencil. It must be something in the corss-hatching. But the highlight is definitely the eyes. I know it sounds stupid, but I really love the way you do eyelashes. They always look so neat and pretty.

It always amazes me when people mention something about my portraits that I don't even see sometimes. They look glossy? Well hell that's seriously cool in my book. I dunno maybe it's the paper? Cause I always use Bristol Board, I just like the smoothness of the paper more than I do regular drawing paper.
Each time I tackle an "eye" I always dread the eyelashes, because if you draw them too thick they don't look overdone and if you draw them too thin, they end up looking like a cupid-doll. Then there is that careful balance not to make your guy's eyes look like a girl. So it 's very reasuring to know you like them.
I was trying to create a different kind of lighting, since she's got such a hot spot of light on her neck and back. I'm still not happy with those results, the wrinkles on her neck look funky too... I'll have to revisit that after I finish my Rogue picture.

Hmmm. I think the 'glossiness' comes rather from your technique than the paper. Well, maybe the paper does have something to do with it, but you have a way of using your pencils and creating texture that makes it seem straight out of a magazine page.
Heh heh, eyes are my favourite part of the face, and I always feel drawn to the ones your draw...
Yeah, now that I look at it, the wrinkles in the neck do seem rather funky... I guess it seems a bit hard to draw them without just drawing lines. Maybe you should use a bit more subtle shading...
