Amazing tutorial, too bad sculpey is like gold pots where I live, but I get through with alternative materials.
Congratulations on the DD, this is surely valuable information, well explained and inspiring.
As for attaching the piece onto the base, I'd suggest a staple gun, much faster than drilling holes or hammering nails.

Arent they? SS is 18 € where I live, what a rip off. I jizzed in my pants when I got my 2kg order of Super Sculpey (came in a massive box) from US.
And stapleguns rock when youre not going to make a base for your critter, but if you are, you need to leave some spare wire to support the heavy frame.
Im making this big bozo now, Boomer, you wont believe how fat and heavy he is.

[link] [link] This was my first attempt at sculping, fella's got 1 kilo (cellulose-based clay), half of it on his belly. The staples did fine. But I get it, if I did him in a ballerina pose the thing would not stand. xD
Oh, btw, forgot to watch you. Not happening this time.

Awesome job, the pose looks super good too!
Did you say that was your first attempt?
Thanks for watching me!

Artists always want to make you feel something, get a reaction out of you...
Ill be in seventh heaven if I can make people feel disgusted, disturbed and slightly.. less innocent.

A very lovely and humorous tutorial, also loved the fact that you used a Spitter as an example!
You defiantly deserved that DD. :]

No. It tells me that you notice the important things, and not the trivial details.
Good show.

All the tools you use, and the technics, seem remarkably similar to clay. Hm...

I love this thing! I used Sculptey for the first time last year and I was amazed. This tutorial is really great because I wanted to do some more traditional sculpting and this will help me out.

Yeah its funny how they trick you that way.
It appears my oven is more cunning than yours: With bright lights it tricks you into thinking its a good guy. You know, like a Viperfish?

That sculpture disgusted me, it was sculpted well but in this case the good sculpting makes me want to throw up. Amazing tutorial but I believe that a beginner should start out with something easier...

What, you mean you dont have some?
Everyone should have at least one box of clay laying around. I heard its good for Feng Shui.

I actually went through my boxes, and I FOUND some clay ... that I had bought, once. That I had forgotten about. It was one of the ones you didn't like, though, so I may just use it for ... well, trying the whole thing out.
Thanks again for a lovely, lovely tutorial.

I bet you have the original Sculpey, dont you?
But please, do not tell me. Id just codemn you for blasphemy and attempt to purify the damned box with holy water.
We shall remain friends, comrade.

It was the grey one. Firm, I think. To my defence, though, it was the only Sculpey kind of clay that that particular store had in stock. Better any Sculpey than ordinary school clay, I figured.
Now, though, I know better, and I shall do better the next time I visit an art supply store.
Thanks to you, of course.

Firm?
Firm is okay, its a bit harder to work with, but its doable. Ever since I started mixing Super Sculpey with Firm I started liking the grey matter
