This tutorial is amazing! I love it

I do have one question, which may seem silly but...in regards to the wire attaching the figure to the base, after you bake it, I know you said you can just cut it off, but what about the part of the figure that it actually went into? How do you fix that up post-production so that the figure doesn't have a hole in it?

SgtMilenko In reply to Not-a-Liz [2011-08-25 11:47:37 +0000 UTC]

Good question, I indeed didnt explain that!
What I do is have a few bakes, the first one at a lower temperature (just enough to make the outside of the sculpture to bake hard), and one or two bakes in higher temperature.
After the first bake (at around 110 degrees) I remove the wire completely (I actually pulled 10 cm of steel rod out of a Boomers ass few hours ago), and fill the hole with clay.
The surrounding clay should still be a bit soft (and HOT) from the first bake when youre applying the buttplug, and the next bakes will fix the new clay to its place.

Lovely tutorial. As a wargamer, I find these most helpful. Super Sculpey seems a better choice than standard GF9 Green Stuff.

One question though: As I am European, I'm a tad confused to whether you mean Fahrenheit or Celsius in the degrees given when baking? 100-120°C is far more than 100-120°F!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SgtMilenko In reply to Belazikkal [2011-08-25 09:33:42 +0000 UTC]

Celsius, my dear fellow!
Through trial and error Ive concluded that the best temperature is 110 degrees celsius for the first bake, then for the final ones 120 and 140. Be careful with higher temperatures, they burn quickly!

Doesn't turpentine + oven = KABOOM? I've always been afraid to use it on my sculptures :c

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SgtMilenko In reply to Erobern [2011-07-25 20:53:34 +0000 UTC]

You know, thats what I always thought.
And the moment I stuck it in the oven the first time... Oh lord I bet the old fart downstairs heard my heartbeat. But then again. Its not flammable (at least the stuff I use,- be careful!), and I let it carefully dry for a day or so before sticking it into the oven,- never had problems with it. Also Im too in love with the bugger to cut down on it. If you try it, youll fall in love with it too.

But even with all my experiements, I always try to be as careful as I can, and so should everyone else.

Where I live all Super Sculpey has been sold out. There are problems with the company importing it to our country. People are gathering in the streets.
Ive survived by letting my morning oatmeal sit and sculpting the stiff remains, but lately Ive resorted into ripping my old, unfinished and unbaked projects apart and using their flesh to sculpt me a new model.
It wont be long till we start eating each other.

awesome! doubt they sell sculpey where i'm at but i'll try it anyway. Also, i assume the temperature is in farenheit right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SgtMilenko In reply to Tsailanza [2011-06-29 18:45:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, sculpey is sometimes pretty hard to find,- and if they sell it, its usually the sculpey original, which I do not recommend buying. Its kinda the cheap alternative for kids art classes.
Your best bet is to order it online,- the only shop in Helsinki sells it for 20 €, you can get it online for as cheap as 10 €.
