hehhe no filters were actually harmed in the making of this piece.
I used three layers of the main image, the top most was made very stark by applying a change in the curves, the second and third where blurred in different ways and overlayed to "colour" the B&W of the top layer.
I don't use the cheap filters

your note made me try again and this time it actually worked!
I'm surprised, I didn't notice from the preview how vector like parts of it were. I like the texture the blinds in the background have taken on. The blue tones create a calming effect to go along with the darkness, bringing out the vunerability you're showing in the peice. The grey pulling at the unpredictability.
Two things I would change if it were mine: the hairline is a little harsh and your jaw/chinline seems to have been lost causing your nose to take on a difinitive shape I'm not too sure I like. It's a wonderful manip, and obviously as you said very personal. It takes guts to submit things that show so much of your inner and outer self. I know, because I've done a lot of it.
