That's . . . a good question. She's got a choice, but it's not one she can make without weighing the fates of a /lot/ of other lives. A very big, very heavy choice.

Makes you wonder how the pony populations have started up. Unless Celestia and Luna's parents had something to do with it; being such cosmic-like higher beings.
Also makes me wonder if they're aware their daughter crossed to where she was told not to go to, which led to her meeting younger Discord, thus being in the forest, which has been budding with life. Don't know if you could answer this or not.
I like their dynamic, though. The two like friends, but even Celestia showing some kind of immature side to her (Ex: Pushing her hoof onto his nose, previous page).

I delve into that later. This turned out to be a pretty lengthy story, but I'm learning a lot and still enjoying it, so I figured I could fit that in.

It's very interesting to see the emerging pony civilizations.
Your picture of them has only earth ponies though, does intermingling of the species of pony (not exactly sure how the different types of ponies are related) happen later?
Or maybe unicorns and pegasi come later? It's a great comic anyway keep up the good work!

Oh, so there IS enough of a social context for "Princess" to mean something other than whatever Celestia and Luna make it mean!
Also, do I see Discord volunteering to take Celestia's "burden" away from her? Or maybe just doing so as a surprise (by showing himself to the ponies and demonstrating his magic and perhaps even wisdom?).
For an added twist of the knife, Celestia could ASK him to do so for her... which might or might not be a gambit of Discord's that he set up by playing up the negative aspects of rulership.
I also find it interesting that ponies aren't looking as defensive as they should be without light to see beyond the edges of the firelight... apparently, the seeds of "work and play in the day, sleep through the night" weren't motivated by fear of monsters at this point. Which makes the roots of there giving Luna reason for rebelling a little more intriguing. Of course, civilization probably got knocked back a few stages during Discord's rule, so the element of fear could still be their. Perhaps Discord created the monsters, either from nothing, or by modifying Gaia/Terra's work.

I'd love to confirm/deny everything you said, but it would give stuff away, and I've got a lot of things to delve into. I will just say that you are right about Discord not being intimidated by responsibility like Celestia is, and that it becomes a... wedge... of sorts... between them.
